Warm outfit for a summer wedding

I need your help! I need a wedding guest outfit for a wedding in the north of England in early June. Wedding is an outdoor marquee type venue and I'm worried about it being a bit chilly. I'm not very good when I get cold, get bad back and and go grumpy 😂
What can I wear that I can perhaps layer up? I'm early 40s, size 12 and 5'7". I'm wondering about a trouser suit with a nice top but dont want to look like I'm dressed for the office. Max budget £80ish without shoes and bag.

I think they're a bit above my budget by the time I add trousers and a top too

@Travellingraspberry

I see that Primark has jackets and trousers which would work and which are within your budget.

Jumpsuit with a blazer? Surely the marquee will have heaters though, I went to a marquee wedding in Liverpool in May a couple of years ago, it was heated.

Travellingraspberry · 10/05/2026 10:35

I'm hoping it is heated but might not be in June. I do feel the cold really easily!

I love this dress but typically can't find it anywhere in a size 12 https://www.next.co.uk/style/sv109101/g40599 thinking something in this style that i can wear a tight fitting cardigan over the top so almost looks like a skirt?

@Travellingraspberry

That's a lovely dress, OP.

Yes, I think that you could wear a cardigan, perhaps a cropped one, light but warm, in a soft wool.

Re the dress, there does seem to be a problem with availability.

I would ask the company about it.

Oh, that's amazing! The stock system must have just updated itself.

It looks perfect.

You can layer up under neath with some chub rub short type thing - they keep me surprisingly warm when i misjudge the weather Or cut off tights at the knee. And a vest. Take some handwarmers and a warm outfit for evening you can keep in the car. By the no one wil care 😂 have fun

I was going to say long sleeves and high neck would be a good idea but the dress you picked is nice. I’d and a short cardigan not a jacket or it might be too MOB.

That is perfect. What about shoes and hair band

Travellingraspberry · 11/05/2026 21:14

Dress arrived and its lovely! I'm hoping to find a mid pink cardigan to go with it.

@redboxerclub what colour shoes and bag do you think?

They have a blue trouser suit too, but availability might be tricky on that one.

What about gold?

I seem to remember back in the day Princess Diana reportedly said that she swore by thermal underwear.

FinallyHere · 14/05/2026 08:05

like @carpool I’d encourage you to consider thermals Uniglo do very lightweight but surprisingly cozy roll neck thermals in a wide range of colours. Like you I feel the cold snd find these work under pretty much any top. I don’t get overheated but also just don’t get the shivers.

Also thermal cycle shorts or the translucent thermal tights work well for the lower half, under anything really.
