Best Glossier Generation G alternative please

I know Glossier changed the formulation of this lovely matte lip balm quite a while ago (I’ve tried the new formulation - bleurgh!)…

I’ve still got one of the old ones in Zip which I love and am eeking out.

I’ve tried other brands (Beauty Pie, REFY, Violette FR) to find something with good colour pay off (but still soft), hydrating and smells nice but no luck so far… anyone got any other suggestions please? I’m mostly a reddish orange person and happy to chuck some money at the right formulation. Def matte please.
Thanks 💋

You’ll probably have better luck searching by texture/formula type instead of brand at this point. The older matte balm style you’re describing usually had:
more lightweight emollients
less wax heaviness
a blurred silicone/matte feel
lower pigment density than a true lipstick

That’s why they felt soft and wearable instead of dry or “thick matte.”

Since you like reddish-orange tones, I’d look for formulas described as:
blurred matte
soft matte balm
velvet balm
mousse matte

Avoid the ultra long-wear matte systems.

Merit Signature Lip Blush is great. I like it much more than the Glossier which I found very drying. September is a nice brick red shade.

Thanks. Yes I want less waxy, the new Glossier formula is very waxy… I’ll try what you suggest.
