Ideas for a stylish 70s-themed party outfit without fancy dress

Inspired by a recent thread, plase could you help me with dress/jumpsuit ideas for a 70s themed party please!

I want to look great and on the theme but not too 'fancy dress'. I'm 6 ft, size 14ish and happy with any length. Colour-wise, I'm a boring Soft Summer... "think of your palette as very understated. Think of these colours as being ashy or smokey. Soft Summer colours have a washed/worn-in/vintage look to them rather than a striking, clear or fresh look."

I've been looking at Donna Ida jumpsuits on vinted but would probably prefer a dress as it might be hot. Budget fairly flexible, could be £300ish for the dream dress that I'd rewear but happy if much cheaper! Thank you kind people

70s - Laura Ashley. Glam rock - Marc Bolan. Bianca Jagger wedding suit, and hat! Anything Jerry Hall would have worn. I was around in the 70s. Didn’t see jump suits! Bowie had a few! Any slinky dress with a sequin jacket. Biba style. White trouser suit and floppy hat. Florals like Laura Ashley!

I work in vintage and the jumpsuit thing for 70s fancy dress is so overdone. How about a typical flower power maxi dress. They were everywhere in the 70s and original vintage ones are easy and cheap to pick up from proper vintage shops or Vinted.
you’d be a size 18 in vintage sizing by the way so be sure to check what it says on the label

I would wear some nice flares that I could wear again. And some kind of floaty top. I would be happy to wear some kind of bandanna too!

Maxi dresses were 70s. Flower power 100% 60s. Jump suits were also stage wear. Mere mortals didn’t wear them, thank God.

Vivienne Westwood for late 70s style.

Punk rock was also 1970s but possibly harder to carry off in a stylish manner!

Well yes. Grab a bin liner! There was style but it was mostly about cheap fashion.

If you want to avoid anything too fancy dress, Annie Hall came out in 1977.

Editing as I forgot you said you'd prefer a dress - sorry!
