How would you style these trousers?

What style shoe would you wear with these trousers?

I fell in love with them in H&M on Saturday but am now doubting myself mainly due to teenage scorn about them looking like Aladdin trousers…I had visions of looking vaguely up to date on work trips to London this summer, with a white shirt or striped top. But shoes I’m struggling with.

or are they all wrong?

How would you style these trousers?

I think f they look bloody ridiculous even on the model who is supposed to be tempting us to buy them, it’s not a great start. Don’t do it OP. Grin

Sandysandytoes · 04/05/2026 08:14

Definite primary school end of year play vibes.

DeathBanana · 04/05/2026 08:28

I’ve got a few pairs like this. I wear them with a tighter flitting top, or a cross over ballet style cardigan and birkinstock Boston’s or ballet flats with a strap.

Think of them as less sporty alternative to wide jogging bottoms (which are all the rage with the kids so tell them to do one when they do their teenager act)

Ironfloor269 · 04/05/2026 09:21

Do they come with a magic carpet? 😆

SingedSoul · 04/05/2026 09:45

With a monkey and a magic carpet.

PudgeJudy · 04/05/2026 09:52

Flat sandals with a thick strap or trainers. Heels look ridiculous.

henlake7 · 04/05/2026 11:08

Im not a fan of the thick cuff around the bottom TBH.
I have similar trousers though and tend to wear mine with chunky boots or Converse (I tend to be abit tomboyish though!).

LongGinShortTonic · 04/05/2026 11:10

That’s it. They’re going back!

Sorry, I am very much each to their own but these are very hard to style & avoid Aladdin comparisons. Perhaps impossible.

A flat thong sandal or chunky flat sandal.

Best choice!

My (not) charming brother calls these sort of trousers "poo catchers".🙄

@LongGinShortTonic it’s sometimes a waste of time coming to S&B for advice on fashionable clothes …

Every self-respecting clothing brand has a version of those trousers this spring - you really haven’t bought anything weird or unusual in the context of 2026. So don’t return them unless you actually don’t like them yourself!

While I think so tiny attempt at a heel is probably the freshest way to wear them, they’ll probably look good with any updated cage sort of shoe - this sort of thing:

well, 'poo' to him too!😆

They are harem trousers and I blimmin' love them! I remember having some I lived in in the '80s so Im really glad to see them back.
So comfy and wide legged trousers that dont drag on the ground? yes, please!

LongGinShortTonic · 04/05/2026 11:43

Thank you all for making me laugh! I have realised that they are too short on me (I’m quite tall) and they hit me in the wrong place.

that plus I cant get ‘A whole new world’ out my head…maybe I’ll look for a longer pair and then style it out as @TheFarriersDaughter suggests! I am glad to hear I wasn’t totally off the mark style wise 😂

Wait a minute, didn’t you accuse an OP of chasing lions on safari for wanting to buy a khaki shirt dress? 😁 I think that dress was infinitely more fashionable than the Aladdin trousers.

Tablesandchairs23 · 04/05/2026 11:50

They're dreadful. Mc hammer.

Just because something is in the shops doesn’t make it fashionable…

You're going to look gorgeous in them if you are tall!
I like the top in the photo that goes with them too

noonames · 04/05/2026 13:19

what about these from Bershka OP? I am 5’9” and they’re long enough for me. Very cool imo and so nice to wear. (Might take a minute to load the photo.)

Oooh I like those! Glad to see it’s not just me wanting to go MC Hammer (at least they hide my chubby knees!)

Bring on the parachute pants! I wore these for the first time the other day and they were so flattering and comfortable, highly recommend.

henlake7 · 05/05/2026 14:14

I think to qualify as 'MC Hammer pants' the crotch would have to be at knee level surely?😅

Monty36 · 05/05/2026 15:18

I don’t think they are right. If they were Indian say using Indian fabrics then fine. But using a fabric which is arguably ‘western’ but in an Eastern style looks odd. Especially the tweed.
I wonder if they are made up in India or Bangladesh where those doing the sewing will be far more familiar with producing styles in this design ? And therefore cheaper to produce.

Being in the shops is the very definition of fashionable! Whether it’s stylish or beautiful or ridiculous is another matter.

Not meant as a comment on these trousers (I lived through the ’80s version of them and saw a nice black satin pair I was tempted by the other day).
