I have never really bought perfume but I’d like to have a nice one. How do I start to find one though?! So many options I don’t know where to begin.

Ooh Sandalwood and Spiced Apricot sounds gorgeous. I'll have to pop into Jo Malone to give it a sniff.

Annoyingly I think it was a limited edition one for Christmas, dh got it for me, it’s got a blue ball shaped lid - I don’t know if they release it every Christmas but it’s a really lovely scent!

I’d first work out what group/s you like. So floral, oriental , fresh and woody. Pick two perfumes from each group.

Good starting points:
floral: Daisy(Marc Jacob’s), Flora range (Gucci) or flower Bomb (Victor and Rolf)
oriental: scandal (Paul Gaultier) , Black Opuim (YSL)
fresh: White Tea(Elizabeth Arden), light blue ( Dolce and Gabbana )
woody:CHANCE EAU FRAÎCHE (Chanel),BORN IN ROMA DONNA (Valentino).

You can also add fruity or food scented perfumes but I’d start with the above for your first grown up perfume.

Ive picked the above based on the fact you could go into Boots or the Perfume shop and easily find them. I find Jo Malone can be added to the “fresh” category. Aldi do similar dupes to those so if you do like the cheap versions, you can pay for a sample from places like eBay of the real deal or go to a shop.

I would go in with a list, like the above, and pick two to try at a time. You’ll get overwhelmed otherwise. narrow down to a category you like and then pick one and spray it on your skin. Give it half and hour and if you still like it, that’s the one to buy.

I had no idea how many options there were.

I’ve ordered a few samples and I’m excited to start exploring!

Oh - well done, you! I’m excited for you. Perfume is so engrossing …

I have had all most expensive perfumes you can imagine. But I have never, and I can repeat never ever, had as many compliments as I have had for the £35 Zara Joe Malone inspired fashionably London.

I have started laughing when people compliment me on it because I get about a three every day

Oh, and by the way it lasts all day, when I had my most recent compliment I had applied it at 6:30 am and this was at 4 pm
