Plus size summer holiday outfits

Hoping for some inspiration 🫠

Last time I was abroad I was abroad I was a size 18. Now a size 22 due to a medical issue - working to lose some weight but it’s a slow process due to my medication. So none of my previous holiday clothes fit and I need to build a new summer holiday wardrobe 🫠

We’ll be in the Balearics for a week at the height of the summer so needs to be cool and comfortable clothing. Ideally on a high street budget.
I’m 35, medium brown hair, fair skinned & carry my weight around my middle plus have a large chest.

Ideally I’d like pieces that I can mix & match rather than buying loads of standalone outfits.

So far I have:

  • black linen shorts
  • khaki linen shorts
  • 2 summer graphic tees
  • loose vest tops in black & white
  • patterned linen midi dress
  • longline white beach shirt coverup
  • 2 swimsuits - 1 black, 1 patterned
  • sandals in black & tan

Has anyone bought any nice pieces recently for their holidays? 🤞🏼☺️

This sounds like a great capsule wardrobe already, assuming you can pair everything together - I wouldn't add much more just make sure everything goes together so you have more outfit options.

I'd maybe get some lightweight wide leg trousers that go with your tops (Next do lots of them) and perhaps another dress if you like dresses. Then some sort of cover ups if it's chillier in the evenings, like loose kimono-style cardi kind of things.

I tend to live in wide leg trousers and either t-shirts or vest tops if I'm somewhere hot.

@ThatNattyPlayer thanks. I like the shorts but I’m not a fan of the top for me ☺️

@PorkPieForStarters thank you ☺️ I actually do have a couple of pairs of wide leg trousers that I usually wear in the summer here and they would go with all the tops but I’m just not sure if I’d melt in them with the heat over there 🤣🫠

I think with another couple of tops I’d probably be fine for daytime as I’ll happily just alternate the shorts. But I could definitely do with a few nicer options for the evenings.

I usually wear some kind of neutral light cardigan/cover up to travel in so will have that with me if needed but I’ve never needed one previously so doubt it would be used tbh. We’re usually not out too late as DS is a very early riser 🫠🤣

Thanks @user593 - those are the vests I have too and I’m tempted to grab another couple of colours. I’m not sure the other items would work for my shape but they do look lovely and cool for the warm weather ☺️

Honestly get yourself on Shein Curve. You will be able to buy lots of fab bits quite cheaply. If you plan on losing weight there is no point spending a lot

they do some fab swimdresses/tankinis that provide good coverage over stomach areas and swim shorts in a lot of the options

have noticed that a lot more chinese clothes are being sold in independent boutiques/some online sites where they are just selling clothes from the same factories as Shein but massively upsold.

the swim wear gave me so much confidence o actually sunbathe and be around the pool

As a PP has said, it sounds as if you're pretty much there, OP. So you have black, white, khaki & tan so far. Not sure what colours or shape your own dress is - & if it's more dresses or separates you'd like for evening?

With your colouring, & the palette you have already, I think red would work well with it, if you like wearing it?

How about this top? Linen & viscose, so will be cool. Plus will go with black/white/tan/khaki. It would be good with your wide-leg trousers in the evening, if they're lightweight enough? If not, there are lots of gauzy cotton voile/viscose/linen-blend ones around. Or a cotton midi skirt, lightweight with a drawstring/elasticated waist?

The top is slightly but not too waisted, so will give you more of a waist. You could also pair your T-shirts or vests with these skirts or trousers in the evening, with gold jewellery & an extra pair of gold sandals?

Not sure what style of dress you like, or shape - but I'm an apple shape & would find these cool & comfy. The first one is co-ords.

I also think a light unlined cover-up in the evening might be more useful than you think.

What about a kimono jacket in a mix of your colour palette? I think the M/L or one size in this brand goes up to a 22/24-ish. Their own website has a larger selection plus dresses, skirts, tops etc.

Love that Monsoon dress!

Bexxie9015 · 05/05/2026 08:42

I see these virtually identical in F&F yesterday for £22

Try Snag chub rubs for dresses. Honestly a saviour in hot weather. I'm a big girl and find cotton and linens fab. I do wear a lot of white tops and beige/chocolate bottoms in linen. Monsoon,White Stuff and good old Tesco have some great stuff in 22. Also check out Vinted.

BlackCat14 · 05/05/2026 08:45

Simply Be have a lovely new holiday range in collab with Scarlett Moffat, there’s some really nice pieces on there!

Happyjoe · 05/05/2026 10:00

Maxi dresses, they are forgiving and also much cooler on hot holidays. Beach cover ups too, can be some really pretty ones. Monsoon and FatFace do some decent holiday bits and bobs, up to 24.

And I've admired this, love the longer length cami and really nice with the skirt or some cut off trousers?

I noticed that someone here mentioned shein curve. Put in ladies curve kimono in the search bar or look in there swimwear section. They have long and short kimono tops here. Look at the size guide for each of them.
You can wear a tee shirt or a sleeveless top under these.
Shein curve have a lot of trousers, tops ect. They have tee shirts but a lot of them are not cotton. I prefer cotton or the wicker sports tops that carry moisture away from you rather than polyester/nylon type fabric tops for summer.
Get an inch tape like a dressmaker uses, measure your self and measure existing clothes that fit and look up the size guide for each shein item.
If a top has a seem at the back go up a size for comfort.
I find that you can get a few things from shein without spending a lot.

Rubyupbeat · 05/05/2026 11:31

Yours is a pretty good site for larger sizes, also fat face and white stuff. I have bought most of my everyday clothes from these in the past few years.

Rubyupbeat · 05/05/2026 11:35

Please don't buy from Shein or the like. Ethics aside, they are full of chemicals that don't wash out. It's proven and I think some kind of court case going on just now.

Exactly. There are other choices that may be less than perfect, but Shein is the pits.

Thank you all for your suggestions ☺️ sorry, that’s me just catching up with them today but I’ve had a look at them all ☺️
@Sensiblesal @Ilady Shein is just somewhere I completely refuse to shop I’m afraid. I am trying hard to lose weight so don’t want to spend loads - hence high street prices rather than any higher end options but Shein is a no-go 🫠

@BlackCat14 There are some lovely pieces on there ☺️ I have a few in my basket 👍🏻

@user593 that dress would be perfect if it nipped in a bit under the bust. I’m a 38G/H so find things that don’t nip back in just hang like a tent on me and make me feel even bigger.

I do have a few FatFace dresses in my basket but I’m going to have another scour of Vinted first before I buy ☺️ and I’ll have a look at White Stuff too!

Have you tried looking on Vinted for some of the items recommended?
You would definitely get more for your money! 🙂
And I always think a nice floaty cotton dress looks nice and cool, during the day and the evening. (Wearing snag shorts underneath if needed for the dreaded “chub rub!”) 🙂

fudgesmummy · 05/05/2026 13:50

Cross posted re Vinted! 😁

twilightcafe · 05/05/2026 14:10

Try TU at Sainsbury's - I love their holidaywear.

And yes to Vinted as well - people will be uploading last year's holiday clothes to sell soon.

And yes to Snag chub rub shorts 🤣 always!!

TU is usually one of my first stops when looking for clothing but nothing is catching my eye at the moment!
