Which brands do quiet luxury really well?

I’ve been having a bit of a wardrobe overhaul over the last few years. Getting rid (or at least archiving) bright colours, louder patterns, crackly fabrics. Turns out, at this stage (48), I feel much more comfortable and stylish in what I think is probably closest to ‘quiet luxury’ (although I’m neither quiet nor especially luxuriously living.)

I’m after beautiful clothes in natural fabrics in subtle colors. I suit cooler, dusty shades and look pretty bad in camel or beige. Simple, comfortable cuts. Nothing fussy but clothes that work well together for a variety of occasions. I like shirts and blouses with wide leg or linen trousers and suit a fit and flare style dress.

At the moment, I buy mostly from Poetry, The White Company and Me and Em, as well as staples from Uniqlo, Boden and John Lewis.

Any ideas of other brands to look at would be brilliant.

Dependent on budget… Arket, COS, Joseph, Massimo Dutti, Toteme, With Nothing Underneath, The Fold.

NetAPorter recently had a selection of Toteme pieces at 40% off. Worth keeping an eye out for sales.

I was going to say me and em. I’m your age and half my wardrobe is from there although I see younger women in my office wearing it (smart city office)

Other brands I like are: John Lewis, cos, Uniqlo, Massimo Dutti, Bauken, Maje, recently have got quite a lot from M&S!

That’s great. I’ve heard of most of those, but not shopped at all of them. I seem to get lots of stuff from With Nothing Underneath on my SM so will take a closer look.

I love Toteme but it’s pricey so a sale sounds good.
Has anyone bought from Rise and Fall- that’s another brand that keeps popping up.

Me and Em let you order things in different sizes to try on, and you only pay for what you keep.
This is handy for me as I’m between sizes and ordering online is guesswork, or paying upfront to try on a couple of sizes.

Gant is lovely. Massimo Dutti. Cos.

MetaDaughter · 02/05/2026 22:55

Every time I look at Rise and Fall I find the colours and cuts not nearly as nice or as interesting as the brands they claim to be undercutting. The whole enterprise somehow lacks romance for me.

Anyway, in addition to the brands pp have recommended so far:

A. Emery
Aime London
Auralee
Community Clothing
James Perse
Loulou de Saison
Margaret Howell
Massimo Alba
Our Legacy
Rendezvous (French multibrand that represents louche, unfussy, everyday luxury. Beautiful fabrics, generous cutting.)
Rohe
Studio Nicholson
The Frankie Shop (Looks loud, carries several ‘quiet’ brands.)

Lots more, these are just the first that spring to mind.

Loro Piana if you have £££ (or for inspiration)
