As per the title, I’m just looking for inspiration and interested to see what people are buying.

The last thing I bought was a pair of board shorts, neither stylish or beautiful, but practical.

Two nighties from Amazon, one wine red and one dark navy floral. Quite cheap and really comfy.

Which sort of tops do you like? My go to for cheap on trend is Tu, Zara. Tu do great basic t shirts.

Do you work for Tu or something? We get it

@EleanorMc67the best bargains are found on Vinted at 7am. 10am and 11pm. When people have just woken up, just uploaded on their commute to work or just uploaded before bed. That’s when you find the £5 stars that aren’t instantly bought by others because they’re asleep/working. They go very quickly.

I’ve added bought some adidas leopard print trainers and some gola khaki trainers with a little pink detail at the heel. I love them and they will go with lots.

A snake cuff from M & S Cuff

And 2 linen shackets from Tu, £25 ea full price but I bought with 15% off. Got in the stone and chocolate brown. They are just the right light cover I’ve been looking for ages for and delighted to get at that price Shacket

Very elegant shoes!

I had wrap trousers shaped very like those in the late 80s/early 90s ... from Warehouse! (When it was good, & I looked forward to every edition of its catalogue/magazine, with models like Christy Turlington & Yasmin Le Bon ...)

I've purchased some sexy heeled pointy slingback shoes to wear at a wedding in a few weeks time. I can't wait to wear them properly! Until then I will be wearing them inside my house!

I got this skirt but it hasn't been warm enough to wear it yet.

https://viverelondon.com/collections/skirts/products/fleur-stripe-skirt?variant=55924930183554

Also a navy cotton midi skirt with a white trim from H&M and a grey half-sleeved top with a sort of draped bit over the shoulders, same. I needed something shorter to go with high-waisted wide-leg trousers that also provided a bit of upper arm coverage, and it was surprisingly difficult to find anything that really fitted the bill, but H&M usually has what I need!

That's a lovely skirt. Some really nice tops too, so thanks for that link!

horlickstablets · Today 00:55

A top that surprisingly fits boobs and is a decent length and a pair of shorts that are comfy and again a good length (I’m 5ft 10) both from TU

@EleanorMc67 some great Vinted purchases there! I might look out for that brand of top, I've not seen them before.

I have 2 leather/ suede jackets and a linen dress on the way from Vinted, and a Kate Moss gold crochet number that might get listed straight back on- I imagine it's very short.

Marina Rinaldi is a plus-size brand that starts at a UK 14 - from your Vinted finds I think you might be quite a bit skinnier than that! Plus it's a good-quality label, but generally a bit dull, I think - though I love my top. However, I think the top must be quite old (though unworn) as nothing comes up in Google for it. There are similar ones out there though, so maybe try a search of the image?

I did see this posted elsewhere, which is black & white rather than black - but immediately reminded me of mine!

@PistachioTiramisu I am not sure about many of the shapes out there right now.

I'm a fan of Autograph at M&S quality generally and seem to buy quite a bit from there, I've got an order incoming which contains these, but they look very full so I'm not sure I expect to love them. Also ordered this because I thought it might look nice with the trousers and jeans.

I really like M&S Autograph too.

Used to be a huge fan 25 years ago when it was launched, as little stand-alone boutiques within the stores - & when it had Betty Jackson & Hussein Chalyan etc designing for them. Then it went downhill & I didn't bother with it for quite a long time - but it's become really good again lately!

1950s skirt from Ebay.
1950s/early 60s tailored, hour glass shape jacket from local charity shop.
Uniqlo C culottes.

And 'Dressing the Queen' - Kate Strasdin on the unsung workers behind the wardrobes and ceremonial robes worn by the Queen / Queen Consort since Victoria's coronation - the weavers and shoe makers and embroiderers etc. It's the most interesting book I've read in ages.

It's good to see mention of someone buying "proper" vintage (ie not 80s onwards!) clothing - it's rarely mentioned on S&B! And mention of buying in charity shops too.

Though I know that the clothes I wore in the 80s & 90s will now be considered as vintage to younger women ... But I suppose I plundered my Mum's 70s dirndl maxis & denim wedges, & my granny's 50s wool suits, when I was in my late teens & twenties - time moves on, & current becomes vintage!

Vinted
First thing is you go to profile - personalisation.
Tell it there what sizes you want to see, and then start listing and ticking any brands that you want to see - I like some higher end high street, so I have Nobody's child, Wyse, Aligne, Tallulah and Hoe, Greek Archaic Kori, things like that. Just list as many as you can think of.
This doesn't stop other things coming up on your feed, but it does help.

Next step is to remember that Vinted is an algorithm - if you look for it, it will bring it up again. If you stop looking, it will stop. If you search a random thing- a kids dress- you will get flooded with kids dresses until you teach it youre not interested.

So start by picking a brand, or a style that you like. Pick one of the brands you've chosen, or boho, or vintage silk, or dopamine, whatever floats your boat and kind of fits your style.
It'll bring up a million things that use your keyword. Filter down to any sizes you might want to see- remember that some people might see a large label, but tick M/ 14 instead. Filter condition too.
Then favourite away. You want to just heart anything that's vaguely what you might like. If you see anything that's actually what you like, then engage with it- open the listing, open the more information button, take a few seconds reading, then favourite it before you move on. Remember that if there's anything you DONT want- scroll by quickly.

Once you've spent a few minutes doing that, come out of Vinted, and leave it for a little while. Then go in, try a different brand, and do it again. If you can do it for several brands, great.

Once you've done this a few times, you should see your feed starting to improve a little, so spend a bit of time scrolling through that, and open anything interesting- if you engage, it gives you more of the same. You should be able to clear your favourites of some of the stuff you've liked, and start favouriting what you might actually be interested in again.

It's as simple as that. Just remember- if you search for something, it keeps on giving you it. If you engage with it by looking, it gives you more. So look for the one kids dress that you want, then don't look again! And then spend some time going back to looking for what you want.

Also- at the top, there are tabs for women's, mens, etc- these still follow your feed, so use them and they'll stop you seeing the other categories.

At the minute my feed is filled with leather jackets and bags- which I keep getting distracted by! I need to do some searching for other things, but they pop back out of your brain if you need them.

Make sure you save your favourite searches, and try and check them if you open the app once every day or two, and you'll get them up on your feed as soon as they're listed.

Thanks so much for that! I think I might have been doing some of that inadvertently anyway - hence it now being, as you say, quite well-trained already 😁!

One thing I wasn't sure about re saved searches. In eBay you can save a specific search (say, Jigsaw Portland trainers UK 41), & as soon as they appear you're notified. With Vinted, do you just have to check against your saved searches regularly instead? I do get Vinted notifications, but they only seem to relate to my favourited items.

Don’t be jealous all, but I bought these. Aged 55, I have finally embraced big knickers. I hope MN allows the posting of M&S’ finest.

A shirt from Tu that’s a funny shade of yellow
which doesn’t particularly suit me and is ridiculously oversized but I was desperate for something new to wear.
im struggling this season, stuff in the shops seems to be ridiculously short and wide or only suitable for a beach holiday. at this rate I’ll have to WFH full time if I don’t find anything suitable for the office!

LittleVoice11 · Today 07:49

M&S camel car coat - it’s great! Also a brown “H” belt from DH Gate for about £12, it looks just like the Hermes one in Love Story! Trying to get the 90s look the 2nd time round haha!
Also Primark wide leg jeans in the denim and black- only £16 and fab! Vintage Coach bags from Vestaire.
I’ve been laser focused on getting rid of old stuff on eBay and selling a few 80s costume jewellery pieces online which I think justifies all of the above 🤣🤣

Lucy and yak jumpsuit (not dungarees)
Phone case from talk and tell

I’m also looking for new work shoes, I want some loafers but can’t find exactly what I’m looking for.

I’d like some new tops for work, generally I wear tailored trousers and a plain tee but looking for something fancier but again can’t quite find what I’m after.

Is this your answer to my question to you asking what qualifies as vintage? I see that my 90s clothes won’t fit the brief then!

anon2022anon · Today 08:31

@HereAndNo apparently vintage hits at 30 years old- so anything pre 1996 now! Crazy.

I have done a bit online this morning.

I bought a burgundy belt and burgundy trainers from Next in the sale as well as some basic v neck long sleeve tops.

From Zara, I got some cropped jeans and a perfume that I saw recommended. I have also bought this top.

https://www.zara.com/uk/en/short-sleeve-knit-polo-shirt-p05536054.html?v1=527343418

I saw these trainers in Skechers yesterday. Not my usual place to look but really liked them. Had a think about them overnight and saw this morning they have 20% off so these have been ordered.

I would still like a summer shoe. Not a sandal or a trainer. I’ll know it when I see it, I just haven’t found it!

Jesus I literally clicked on this thread and 2 minutes later I own some Sainsbury's barrel leg jeans

FlorenceLyons · Today 09:04

I’m starting a new job next week, so have treated myself to a bit of a Me & Em haul (mainly sale items). I have some dark brown linen barrel leg trousers (they’re weren’t in the sale, but I’ve had my eye on them for a while and love them!), a pale pink ‘layering top’ with excellent voluminous sleeves, a burgundy waistcoat, some olive block heels and some soft brown loafers.

Yes it's good to see another vintage fan on here! They didn't even have a word for it when I started out - they were all just second hand clothes and you could still pick up Edwardian stuff in the right places. Now I go to fairs and half of it's Asos and Top Shop Shock

@HereAndNo I think around 30 years is generally recognised as the cut-off age, so currently '90s.
