Massage oil in hair won't come out even with fairy liquid!

Hello

4 weeks ago I had a massage. BIG mistake! The oil got in my hair and Head & Shoulders clarifying shampoo and Fairy Liquid haven't even been able to remove it. Even leaving fairy liquid on for an hour hasn't shifted it!

Any ideas before I shave my head?

Thanks

It usually takes 2-3 washes for me!

LovelyCoconuts · 24/04/2026 17:07

I've done several washes already.

BTW ignore Chat GPT's suggestion to wash with conditioner - this made it worse!

Have you tried old fashioned bar soap? It’s brilliant at breaking down any sort of grease.

Wash from dry with shampoo. Leave in for a few mins then rinse. It will take a couple of days to go.

You're not wetting your hair before shampoo or fairy liquid are you? You need to use it neat to get oil out.

Have you tried dry shampoo or putting fairy on dry hair for a few minutes before shampooing? This got engine oil out of the end of my hair.

Good shout, thanks. Will put some more fairy liquid on my hair now it's dry and let it sit for a bit.

I'm absolutely not joking about the head shaving tbh! I have a lot of old bleach I'm growing out too so perhaps it would be easier all round!!

I had that. I covered it in talcum powder and rubbed it in to soak the oil then washed it twice.

If you're not joking then I think you should do it. It'll be so freeing, and lovely and cool for the summer. I've been extremely tempted a few times.

@ThatLilacTiger if this doesn't work, that's the way I'm going! Will be a nice "fuck you" when I next see my parents also! :-D

A bar of soap. Something like an olive oil soap.
then rinse well. You could also rinse with ordinary white vinegar.
