Fake tan vs spray tan?

i have a special holiday coming up and if i am going to show some skin, it would look better with a tan. I am very white…
sunbeds are out.
i have tried Dove tanning lotion on sunday (the darker shade) and i see no difference.
what about a spray tan? What are the pros and cons? I guess it is quick and done homogenously and looks natural but might be expensive?
fake tan at home - hit and miss? I tried Dive because someone told me i wouldnt get orange hands and it is cheap…
any advice appreciated!
i am 52 if that matters? TIA

I prefer to do my own tan rather than spray as it’s quite dark. I recommend Bare by Vogue. You’d need to put Dove on daily for a week to see a difference

Dove buils up gradually and if you are naturally very pale you would almost certainly better with the lighter shade.

Spray tan takes quite a bit of prep to look decent and last. Lots of exfoliating and moisturising beforehand. I really like the Dove stuff because it is gradual and actually easier to control the result plus it does moisturise. It’s also good for taking away with you. Start with the lighter one and then take the darker one away with you for top ups.

Ok i’ll persist with Dove for now and if it doesnt work, ive found a spray tan for £30.
