M&S knickers - what’s happened?

I’m in my 40s and for most of my life I’ve bought my everyday wear knickers (thongs to be precise) from M&S. They’ve always washed well and lasted but I’ve found that the ones I’ve purchased during the last year or two have fallen off a cliff in terms of quality, e.g. holes appearing around the stitching after only a couple of washes.

Is it just me or are others having this issue? And can anyone recommend somewhere else where I can buy quality, comfortable cotton thongs that will last more than a few months?

I was a cynic but was willing to try..I really hope you find them comfy. Here's the other pants thread for anyone who's interested.

John Lewis do excellent quality cotton knickers. I buy shorts, but sure thongs will be available.

Boody is excellent for long sleeve t shirts too. They always have offers so wait for them to come around.

Happy to report that my new Tu knickers are very comfy, decent fabric and ample of gusset!

I bought one pair of Boody knickers to try out some time ago. They went baggy, fall down and became shapeless quite quickly. I had to bin them.

How's the sizing?

Yes I agree, the quality is awful now and it's harder to find full cotton ones. I also despair at their socks, they came apart after only a few washes.

No, I didn't but might do now - I'm away for a couple of nights, grabbed some knickers out of the drawer and put them in my case. When I went to put a pair on this morning, the side seam had completely given way. Not just a bit of a hole, but the whole seam so they only had one leg! Luckily I had another clean pair with me.

It's such a pity as I was always recommending British Boxers, but the quality now is dreadful.

thongs are comfortable but I haven’t washed them yet - will report back.

mesh bra was comfortable and surprisingly supportive, so we’ll see!!

I googled, in desperation, regards the increasingly uncomfortable leg elastic in M&S ladies knickers! It led me to your comment. I rarely do this, but I took the plunge and looked at the British Boxers website! They are expensive, but have a great summer sale on. I bought 8 pairs of high leg, bamboo knickers, they came yesterday and are so amazing,

Uncomfortable elastic, narrow gussets etc M&S is really letting us down . They don’t seem to care either. Contacted them and they didn’t bother to reply. At one time M&S were THE firm for underwear

I have thrown away loads of recent purchases of knickers from M and S after a few wears. They're just awful quality . Really uncomfortable, cheaply made, narrow gussets and now the elastic gives me eczema. They feel like they're made in a sweat shop in China. Absolute crap.

I bought some underwear in Sainsbury's the other day. I have never bought any clothing from Sainsbury's in my life before but they were 100 percent cotton and they are FAR more comfortable. It'll be interesting to see how they hold up and whether they sag and lose their shape.

Yes, I get the big kecks (pack of 5) from M&S & the last pack I got are proving to be rubbish, going very baggy & I haven’t lost weight!

I always bought the midis, then they changed the name to low rise shorts but the design was the same so I thought I was safe but bought a pack last week and they're completely different, sit really low, no leg elastic so they ride up your bum and ridiculously small. I'm raging 😆

I used to buy the midis but couldn’t find them anymore so gave up M&S and bought some from dunnesstores.com
It’s a big reputable Irish company that sells Clothing and Home products.

The last ones I bought from there looked exactly the same as the ones I bought five years before and loved.

Some of the reviews said that there was something wrong with the elastic at the top and they fell down, but I stupidly gave them a go anyway.

Yep, they slip down. Of all of the rubbish things I’ve had with knickers over the years, like too tight elastic and VPL’s, etc. I’ve literally never had ones that fell down until now.

I buy these and there's nothing wrong with the gusset size . 😂

They are almost see through there is no stretch I swear they've given me thrush and they are foul. God bless my Debenhams pants from about eight years ago that are still in perfect nick.

100% agree. The sales lady told me they were the same so I got two packets and they are terrible. Constantly drifting crackwards. Total waste of money.

Postscript. I went back to Sainsbury's and couldn't find the ones I bought before. I bought another similar pack but they have much thinner elastic . All of them just fall down and are baggy in the wrong places. I'm actually thinking of giving up wearing knickers altogether .

I’ve had some decent ones from Asda…

Next sell midis. Four-packs. They're excellent.
