Big bum- Lucy & Yak

I am pear shaped: waist around size 10, hips and bum a generous 12, verging on 14. Looser style jeans eg mom jeans are typically quite tight on the thighs and bum, basically because of my (proportionally) massive arse. I’m ok with it but struggle to find jeans that actually look nice. Has anyone with this body shape worn the high waisted Lucy & Yak style, and how do they look?

I feel like Lucy & Yak hasn't ever been flattering, no matter what size you are.
And I say that as somebody who loves their clothes!

Read the reviews and look at all the photos. Order them and try them on.

I'd try M&S jeans first - they've got lots of different styles.

I am exactly the same proportions as you and recently bought these jeans, which I feel great in and get compliments. https://www.albaray.co.uk/products/relaxed-pintuck-jean-mid-wash-aw24?srsltid=AfmBOoofsVsMo0h8kGYBwyCxcvegxGiwrPLVYOJl7nSEJVziNznYYscI

L&Y I haven’t tried and don’t imagine they’d be flattering on me, but I’d love to hear if you go for it! I have a friend who looks fabulous in their trousers but she’s an 8-10 and more hourglass.

How do these fit across the thighs? Are they snug or loose? They look great 👍

I'm a similar shape and have L&Y Addison jeans. Wouldn't say they were the most flattering style but they make my waist look smaller and there's plenty of space for my thighs.

I like Levi's 501 crop because the shape is versatile but the ribcage straight is probably more flattering (it just doesn't work with as many tops). I also like kick flare jeans but being short they're hard to find ones that work for me.

Loose across thighs, close across waist. If you give them a go I hope you like them! I think you get a 10% code for first buy. I also got a lovely dress that flatters my shape well, they are a new brand to me.

I wouldnt wear anything from Lucy and Yuck as I call them. They look like clothes for adults who have a fetish for dressing like toddlers.

HugoThatway · 18/04/2026 16:41

I wear their dungarees. I don't have any fetishes and don't look like an overgrown toddler.

I have really tried with L&Y (as a woman with a very big bum) because their clothes look so cheery, but what I looked like was someone on their way to audition for a job with Rod, Jane and Freddy (yellow dungarees). I did also buy a pair of their black barrell-leg trousers but they are surprisingly short in the crotch. I also found that they assume that women with big bums will also have a big stomach (which I don't) so there was a lot of gaping and billowing around the waistband. Love what they do in theory but I don't think I was meant to wear their clothes.

HugoThatway · 18/04/2026 17:03

I'd not think of them as a jeans brand and their clothes are quite simply cut. Sort of one size suits all.

I previously suggested Marks and Sparks, but a JL personal shopper or a visit to a jeans store might be a good idea.

If you are trying them on, check your rear view in a hand mirror and move about in some typical poses to check that they are comfortable when you sit, reach for something, squat, kneel etc.

Im also a typical pear shape. Waist size 8 to 10 and bum a 12. I can only wear elasticated waist trousers. Everything thing else is either hugely hanging off my waist or skin tight round the bum.
I have been known to buy expensive trousers and get the waist taken in by a tailor. It didnt break the bank. Levi do a find your fit.

I saw a woman recently at a toddler group (she had two kids, say 4 & 2) and she was wearing Lucy & Yak dungarees. She was pear-shaped (same as me, all bum & thighs) a size 14 (her label was flipped out the back) and I remember thinking that she looked very comfy but they were so unflattering. Made her bum look much bigger.
I was wearing a really boring mum uniform of skinny jeans, Breton t-shirt & Adidas. My bum probably didn’t look any better! But it did give me an idea of what L&Y would look like on me. So, no. They definitely had a children’s TV presenter from the 80s vibe… It’s a very specific look! And if you like it, buy them. But they aren’t flattering.

Gowlett · 18/04/2026 21:43

I see now, you’re asking about the jeans!

M&S and H&M are both good for different shapes, I find. Levi’s as well, lots of nice fits.

MayasJamas · 19/04/2026 06:36

Thanks all! Seems Lucy & Yak may not be the best for my body shape. Suspect I may look like I am wearing a cloth nappy in them. Good to have some real world knowledge to offset the relentless insta marketing! Thanks for the other jeans tips 👌
