I want BB cream and under eye brightener but how do people find the right shade?

There are so many shades to choose from and it’s an expensive mistake to make. Shops don’t seem to display as many testers since Covid. I know I could go in a big Boots and have say the assistant on the Benefit counter help me, but what if I want something that doesn’t have its own counter?

I fell very lucky recently with Perricone MD no make up eyeshadow which disappears into my skin and covers my eyelid veins. Their under eye concealer is out of stock though and anyway is more expensive than I want to pay.

I just want two nice, light, brightening, slightly sheer products the same colour as my skin that disguise my dark circles and thread veins and even colour without settling in my lines. I’m 53.

Yes I’ve had the same dilemma. Watching!!!

I keep seeing ads for Gatineau Miracle Eye Contour cream which claim to do this - where one shade suits all and adjusts to your own skin tone. The Insta videos look impressive but wondering how true they are! Anyone here use it?

I buy the one that looks the closest and then mix it with my foundation to get it closer.

Just use the usual response on here and go for Erborain. You can't really go wrong.

Erborian is a CC I think… it’s a colour adjusting one. They have a light (clair) and a medium (dore)

They have a bb cream too. Both are good.

I have some tinted moisturiser from Jones Road which is impressive for coverage and evening my skin tone. Would recommend going to a shop if you can, I was in Liberty (passing for work!) when I found it. The woman did a whole face for me and I was very impressed - I'm 45.

Hi OP. Try to match to your neck or chest rather than your face, especially for BB creams, so everything blends more naturally. For under-eye brighteners go just slightly lighter but not too pale (otherwise it can look grey or highlight lines). Since testers are limited, look for sheer or adaptable formulas as they’re more forgiving if the shade isn’t exact.

And me!

lindyloo57 · 17/04/2026 16:41

I brought and resold the Gatineau Miracle Eye Contour and found it too dark for me.

You can go quite wrong if you’re pale! The lightest shade is way too dark and orange for me.

Even porcelain? I'm Clair with very pale skin in winter. Looking forward to a bit of sun...

I was coming on to say Erborian as well! There are only about 3 shades so it’s not hard to choose. I use the BB cream and have done for years.

badgersbadgerseverywhere · 18/04/2026 09:15

Thank you everyone! I have ordered some Erborian- the CC cream and the Super BB concealer, both in Clair. It was more expensive than I would usually like but I got free delivery and three free samples for signing up.

I will try to remember to update this thread when I’ve tried it!

The lightest colour of Erborian was orange on me. Very disappointed when I tried it.

@MerylSqueakoh no that’s not good. ☹️
