Yes, I'm all for banning that word. It's horrible and doesn't help any discussion.

Frump means dowdy and old-fashioned. Edward and Sophie definitely looked both of these things in their attire upthread. 🤷🏻‍♀️

ExquisitelyDressed · 19/05/2026 11:12

There's a difference between saying that people are frumps and describing the clothes they are given on a particular day as frumpy. I always felt that was the line with these threads, admire/criticise whatever the clothes and accessories but not the people.

That's the line. "They're a couple of frumps" or "she's looking frumpy" not nice. Also, dismissive.
Clothes can be described in many ways - as we do on here - including frumpy, which I think is a horrible word, but it does depend on what the context is.

Probably better just to say that, then?
Frumpy is a word rarely used against men.

I don't like a matching shift dress and knee length coat - in a pale colour especially. The dress on it's own is fine, though.

Yes I agree. The dress alone looks fine but the coat as well is too matchy-matchy and takes it into "mother of the bride" territory!

Yes, I won't say the f word, but definitely dated, unusual for Meghan.

Leti has a couple of leather pencil skirts (the same as Meghan) but I'm not sure about a full leather skirt like this.
I like her blouse, and the shoes are lovely, though.

I'm not keen on the leather skirt (I'm not keen on leather clothes generally) it looks too big and shiny. But I LOVE the shoes.

I agree. The shoes are gorgeous, and I think Leti is really embracing the lower heeled style very well.

No, the skirt looks pleather which Im sure it isn’t!

smilesy · 19/05/2026 12:55

I think, a bit like Camilla’s black jacket, a leather skirt is too wintry for May. Especially May in Spain 😆. I don’t have anything against the skirt per se. And I love the shoes as well

SqueakyDinosaur · 19/05/2026 13:14

Both Kate and Meghan have been seen in the high version of those Aquazurra shoes.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 19/05/2026 13:46

There's been a royal-ish wedding. Fourth time's the charm for Earl Spencer? I quite like a Grecian dress but the shoes are a bit chunky.

Yes, I like the dress. Interesting choice of venue!
I have to say I enjoy their Rabbit Hole podcasts.

Good spot. I like them with the low heel, though.

I think A line leather skirts always look too bulky. But I adore the shoes 💞

justasking111 · 19/05/2026 15:53

Camilla in N Ireland. The dress looks interesting. Clock the diamond and turquoise shamrock brooch which upon googling was apparently gifted to Elizabeth on her wedding 1947.

Also I have no idea what fashionable business woman wear as I commute to a casual workplace in a small town by car so never see any of them.

I note that often American commentators bemoan the (“too long”) length of Kate’s trousers, dresses , skirts etc but take no issue with her heels. I think it’s the footwear that distinguishes her from the current modes for professional women in the U.K. Skirt length aside, the POW still dresses in the way that was the norm pre covid for professional women of her age in the U.K.

From recent travels, in Canada, the US and Australia (no idea about Europe - would be good to know) women directors, bankers, lawyers etc still wear straight tailored shift dresses to knee or above, jackets suits and heels. This is an unusual look now in the UK and looks outdated.

In the U.K., my observation is that stiletto/ court shoes are seldom worn (replaced by brogues, loafers, kitten heels, Mary Jane’s and ballet pumps) and trainers are acceptable in most work environments. Dress lengths here are longer - mid length or longer and wide leg trousers are still more widespread than tapered straight leg ‘work’ trousers. Tailored shift dresses are never seen.

In my stuffy office, most women are back in more formal workwear but that’s likely to be tailored trousers and top with non matching jacket or a midi length skirt or dress often worn with flats or trainers.

Pallisers · 19/05/2026 16:41

I like Camilla's whole look there. Very pretty colour.

Love Leti's shoes - but I love nearly all her shoes. The Spenser wedding - that's a nice dress and nice look but the shoes are shockingly awful.

Love it @gingercat02 😀

on a more serious note there are a lot of children who perhaps suffer in the fall out.
He himself experienced it.

Yes, sadly that's probably at the heart of his many marriages. Diana and Charles obviously had their problems (who ever you blame), but Jane was and Sarah has been married a long time, hopefully happily 😊
Edited as I got my Spencer sisters mixed up

In this case it looks like it's the belt that adds bulk. I'd definitely prefer the skirt without it.

I think this is fairly accurate as to the US, although there are regional differences. I recently retired from one of the above-mentioned professions in the Southern US, and I can say that, in my experience, very high heels are so rare as to be noticeable and remarked upon (lots of kitten heels these days and low block heel slingbacks). Also, many women wear tailored trousers rather than dresses or skirts, but they tend to be slim cut and to the ankle as opposed to the longer wide leg styles. And yes, jackets or blazers are standard.

You don't see the longer length skirts that Kate wears in a professional setting in the US (at least where I live), but more informal midi and maxi length skirts are very much in fashion for casual wear.
