That's interesting, - outside of royalty, and the odd wedding guest, I can't remember when I've last seen someone wearing very high heels. Mostly flats for work and leisure, sometimes kitten heels. My work dress code was smart and no trainers, most of us wore fairly unstructured jackets, trousers and dresses with loafers, brogues or boots.
I did have a colleague who was quite flamboyant, like Max, though! She was great!

I note that often American commentators bemoan the (“too long”) length of Kate’s trousers, dresses , skirts etc but take no issue with her heels. I think it’s the footwear that distinguishes her from the current modes for professional women in the U.K. Skirt length aside, the POW still dresses in the way that was the norm pre covid for professional women of her age in the U.K.

From recent travels, in Canada, the US and Australia (no idea about Europe - would be good to know) women directors, bankers, lawyers etc still wear straight tailored shift dresses to knee or above, jackets suits and heels. This is an unusual look now in the UK and looks outdated.

In the U.K., my observation is that stiletto/ court shoes are seldom worn (replaced by brogues, loafers, kitten heels, Mary Jane’s and ballet pumps) and trainers are acceptable in most work environments. Dress lengths here are longer - mid length or longer and wide leg trousers are still more widespread than tapered straight leg ‘work’ trousers. Tailored shift dresses are never seen.

In my stuffy office, most women are back in more formal workwear but that’s likely to be tailored trousers and top with non matching jacket or a midi length skirt or dress often worn with flats or trainers.

Im not American but I dont like the length of most of Kates outfits..and I love her high heels!

Loved Camilla’s look today. I think I’d have swapped yesterday black for Chelsea and today’s but then maybe the wee brooch wouldn’t have looked so good. I often wonder if an item like that, recognised for its appropriateness or diplomacy is the starting point for planning whole outfits. Her handbag game has been top drawer lately, especially the last two days.

deeahgwitch · 19/05/2026 20:32

I thought Camilla’s outfit today was lovely.

Cassiope · 19/05/2026 21:06

Camilla's Chelsea dress is a re-wear. I think it's silk or something similar and I like it. I agree the black jacket isn't quite right, although it's not the colour so much as the style that I would change. Something longer, with a tailored waist or belt. And no putting the collar of the dress carefully over the jacket, please!

justasking111 · 19/05/2026 21:23

Nope not her colour. Don't like the design either.

Maxima and hubby have been out and about too. Maxima is wearing an enormous hat with a slightly Melaniaesque down-turned brim. It's ridiculous and completely gorgeous. I like her see-through dress too - from the photos it's one of the rare examples that avoids looking peculiarly indecorous (clever fabric which is only see-through under certain lighting conditions, I think). Those towering heels though, tsk - and on cobblestones, albeit very well-maintained ones.

My favourite outfit of recent weeks, I think.

Love Max's ginormous red hat. The Elie Saab is ok, but a bit muted for her. Interesting sleeves.

The colour is nice on Sophie.

Camilla had a Dior Lady Di bag in that photo of her in Northern Ireland.

I like the colour of Sophie’s suit but the jacket style looks dated and the blouse is wrong.

It's a VB suit, interestingly. The colour is "bluebell", which I think suits Sophie.

I love the colour and I think the suit is fine over all, but I agree that the blouse is the wrong one. It doesn’t sit properly under the jacket. I think it’s the collar that doesn’t work as the pattern is nice and goes well with the blue

bluegreygreen · Yesterday 09:51

There are photos online of her wearing it for a few years for charity events. I think it suits her but agree this blouse doesn't work, because of the way the collar sits.

All this talk of brooches. I've bought a pretty one for myself.

That is fab@justasking111. Do you have somewhere specific you plan to wear it, or is it for swanning around the house? 😆

I'm supporting the Alzheimer's society. I'm of the age where old friends whose children are the same age as mine are now in homes. I'm talking early 70s. It's wicked this disease.

Oh of course! Forget me knots. I didn’t realise the AS had range of jewellery. How lovely and how thoughtful of you ❤️
