I love those bracelets @RomainingCalm but I agree they got a little lost . Also maybe a bit modern for the necklace. But in a vague and remote way I do covet the sapphire one.

Pallisers · 29/04/2026 19:00

Love both the necklace and the dress (and the bracelets now that RomainingCalm has posted the pic) but like others I think the dress would have been better with diamonds and the necklace stunning with a white or amethyst dress.

That said I think Camilla is absolutely nailing royal dressing - and has managed to find a style that suits her, is suitable to the occasion and is in no way a copy of QEII. Maybe it is because I am getting older but I realise I prefer her style to Catherine's - she looks comfortable as well as lovely in most of her outfits and her use of jewelry is excellent. And her hair and make up is very good too.

I sometimes wonder how Diana would have aged style-wise. I think it can be harder for someone known for their looks and was a young style icon to manage the right look in every decade as they get older. but then Caroline of Monacco has managed fine. And Joan Collins is fab at 92 so maybe Diana would be wowing us all.

deeahgwitch · 29/04/2026 19:02

I thought the navy Camilla wore to the 9/11 Memorial was very appropriate.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 29/04/2026 19:04

I thought Diana really got into her groove style-wise in the couple of years before she died. After her divorce she adopted a sleeker hairstyle and left the 80s frills behind for a wardrobe of chic skirt suits and cocktail dresses.

Also I think the fashion for shorter skirts and shift dresses in the 1990s suited Diana really well

BasiliskStare · 29/04/2026 20:26

I am sure that Camilla's outfits were utterly scrutinised for , not just did they suit her , did they look nice - I am sure she could have done that - but also any subtle soft diplomatic message they were sending. So I think it was @Serenster who talked about the necklace. Personally I agree I would have looked better against a lilac or purple dress - but purple is the colour of semi mourning isn't it. Look , I'm speculating wildly here , but I am sure there is an element of respectful and performative dressing. Easier for the chaps eh? 😊
I don't know if the theme of "an English garden" was known beforehand but that pink is almost the colour of my little Gertrude Jekyll climber which is coming out now.
I'd have liked to see a tiara but I have read she did not wear one in deference to the slightly less formal nature of the US state dinners. Personally I'd have thought to hell with it , give me a tiara , but I do think all her outfits will have been chosen with care.

It's a big thing I think for female members of the WRF to dress appropriately. It doesn't always make for what I would have chosen but I'll bet a huge amount of thought has gone in behind the scenes.

I thought she was dressed beautifully at the 9/11 memorial.

I think maybe Camilla could have had a small tiara? Im sure that would have been fine😊

KiIIingMeDeftly · 29/04/2026 20:45

She didn't don a tiara for the French visit either. Perhaps she avoids them on trips to countries without a monarchy?

Sidebeforeself · 29/04/2026 20:46

Kate looks like she’s wearing brown under that jacket?! Please god not the return of the brown phase?

That's a good point. But selfishly , I would have liked to see one ( I think maybe like @eggandonion .) This is one of the many good reasons it is very good job I am not in charge of important State visits 😂

I think it's a good point, too. I remember thinking that perhaps she didn't wear a tiara to the French state visit in deference to France being a republic, with the additional factor of France having overthrown a monarchy through violence. Of course, the same can be said of the US. Still though, I don't think it would have bothered many Americans at all. We quite like a bit of royal bling.

I do think that diamonds would have been perfect with the dress. Looking at close-ups of the bodice, you can see that it is festooned with tiny sparkly stars. I think a diamond necklace would have worked well with that bit of sparkle.

I saw a pic of the whole outfit. Brown ‘slacks’, brown top and pale blue jacket.

Kate needs a stylist. Immediately.

eggandonion · 29/04/2026 22:43

Perhaps a sort of headpiece fascinator type of tiara lite? Didn't Diana wear a necklace as a headband?

If I were in charge of UK state visits all the women (and some of the men) would look like the late Queen Mary.

What was the order/medal around Charle's neck? It added to the outfit I thought.

eggandonion · 29/04/2026 22:50

My mother and her sister called Queen Mary the old Queen. They were kids during the abdication crisis. Im very old.

ExquisitelyDressed · 29/04/2026 22:51

Re Camilla, another thing is that she must be absolutely nailing the undergarments. The white dress with black embroidery the other day hung absolutely perfectly, not a crease, pucker or bump anywhere. Now Kate pulls this off routinely, but she has a supermodel figure in build and height, is 30+ years younger and has perfect posture, probably does lots of pilates or similar. Whereas Camilla's figure is more shall we say that of an average woman, slightly fuller, shorter, bigger of bust, but she is looking fabulous. Her hair too, is just right for her face and figure and I agree it is perfect tiara hair. I'd love to see it au naturel, I suspect she might be quite curly.

I just saw that too and yes, the trousers definitely veer into slacks territory! What next? Crimplene??

Maireas · 29/04/2026 22:55

Sadly, I think they are a rewear 🙁.
The blue jacket is nice, though (clutching at straws).

I’ve said it before, I hate brown. Particularly in spring. So it was a miss today from me.

I think Camilla looks great. I loved the necklace. Thought Melania looked great. Wonder if it was a nod the UK with an NI designer?

Will look for photos of Ivanka and Mrs Bezos!

Maireas · 29/04/2026 23:07

Me too, I really hate brown.

I agree that Camilla looked good in the navy. I watched her visit at the New York Public Library where it was possible to see it much closer. The coat has beautiful silk embroidery around the top. She gave a really nice speech about the importance of reading and then read excerpts from Winnie the Pooh to children.

Meanwhile, Charles was, among other agricultural related endeavors, helping children feed chickens. And looked quite good while he was doing it.

Their visit to the 911 memorial was quite moving. And they spent more time with the survivors than they did with the politicians and other VIPs. That has been remarked upon by several commentators.

eggandonion · 29/04/2026 23:51

Jennie Bond says that the king is very huggy now.
Brown slacks aren't nice. The wedding anniversary family photo is cheerful.

Maireas · 29/04/2026 23:53

Thanks for that detail, @CarolinaInTheMorning both about the style and the substance.
It's always good to hear positive stories, and I'm glad that C&C spent time with survivors.
Camilla really promotes the importance of reading, which is excellent
