Do comfortable bras actually exist?

ShoopShoopBaDoop · 15/04/2026 20:30

I'm small chested so I don't actually need a very uplifting bra but I'm finding now I'm over 50 I do need a bit of ompf.

However, I have never found a bra that I find comfortable at all. I despise wires in bras and I don't like thin waist bands either as they feel scratchy and uncomfortable.

I often wear comfort bras as they do instead feel more comfortable but they don't give a nice shape and I feel I end up with a squashed chest and a mono-boob look, I want shape under my clothes especially with summer coming up.

Any suggestions for a comfortable yet uplifting bra which gives shape and one that I can wear all day without that gnawing desire to rip it off as soon as I get home?

The short answer is no. I bet 100% of women who wear bras can't wait to get them off tge minute they get home. Bras are instruments of torture invented by men. And nothing bad would happen if we all refused to wear them.

A comfortable bra is one which fits your body shape and size and gives as much support as the weight of your breasts needs. Keep looking. No such thing as a non-specific 'comfort bra'.

Agree with this. Getting recommendations from other people is of limited use because what works for them may not work for you.

I didn't wear underwired bras for years because I found them all so uncomfortable. Until I stumbled across Elomi, their Morgan bras are amazing for me. I can wear them all day with no discomfort whatsoever, don't even feel like I'm wearing a bra.

Keep looking, the right one for you is out there somewhere.

But loads of posters on this thread disagree with you.

It's the opposite - men would LOVE it if no women wore bras!!! They are instruments of support, not torture. No one's seeing ME jiggling around in all my glory and getting an eyeful of my nipples, no siree! I keep them encased in solid concrete a full-cup underwire minimiser bra. Pervs can forget getting an eyeful.

I always had really sore boobs for ten days leading up to my period. I don't know what I'd have done without a supportive bra.

I think people saying that underwire bras (or any bras) are uncomfortable are wearing the wrong size. When I got properly fitted, it was a revelation. The bra lifted my boobs kind of forward and away from my chest wall, easing the load on my back. I was much more comfortable. So much better than bouncing along the street, attracting all the leches. IMO everyone needs a good bra, bc even small boobs jiggle.

I recently bought this in JL and I’m finding it very comfortable. I have been hunting for ages for a soft bra that doesn’t dig into my ribcage, roll up or feel too tight. This one also doesn’t have straps that slip off your shoulders. And it actually gives a decent shape, rather than a mono-boob. And it’s only £24.

One of the reviews on the JL site says they don't wash well - have you found that ?

Thanks!

I find it really uncomfortable not to wear a bra, the jiggling around is painful if I'm more active. Especially when I'm feeling more hormonal.

Do you even find the soft ones uncomfortable?

I do find bras difficult, but when I've had them properly fitted in Bravissimo, it's been a revelation ! The support for my chest but also my mid back has been much appreciated.

The thing which has changed it for me was realising I needed a much smaller waist band and a larger cup size than I thought.

Apologies if you're already fully aware of having a bra well fitted being helpful I just found it so helpful I thought I'd share just in case.

I did read somewhere that the issue most women have is having too big a waistband, so apparently it's not just me.

I feel the same, although am aware that many women don't.

My favourite bra is so loose around the band and straps that it barely makes contact with my skin. It's probably six sizes too big - just padded triangles hanging down. I wear it every chance I get!

Women with larger heavier breasts can avoid backache with the right bra. Women are not obliged to wear them but many prefer to.

I had this problem for years then I had a bra fitting at Rigby & Peller and never looked back. Worth every penny.

Interestingly I had been wearing a 34DD for years and now I'm a 32 E

Jelly bras!! Omg they are so comfy and look great! No wires and big straps. Heavenly.

Link please if you have it!

I have a mixture, usually just from M&S or (I think) ASDA, so nothing flashy, but they uphold my heaving bosoms, and hold me in, for sheep shearing and general farm wear.

You sound like a Boss!! 😍

minipie · 17/04/2026 09:38

If you are small to medium chested I recommend this bra from H&M

It’s lightly padded so will give some shape but is very comfortable. I’ve tried a lot of unpadded wireless bras and they all look a bit saggy especially when not brand new. Moulded bras on the other hand never seem to fit well everywhere and so can look a bit weird and fake. This bra is a good in-between with some shape from the pads but better fitting than fully moulded.

I do agree with the recommendation to go up a size, they are quite a tight fit.

angelofthesoutheast · 17/04/2026 09:41

Boody t-shirt bras are comfy. I have fairly big boobs and they’re supportive enough for me.

MaybeIamJustABitch · 17/04/2026 09:45

Another vote for Conturve!

I get cotton ones from Tu (Sainsbury's) after having a proper fitting at a (now defunct) bra shop. I'd been wearing the wrong size for years. Anyway, Tu do a two-pack of cotton bras, white and grey. They are really comfortable, and incredibly inexpensive.
The grey isn't a great colour but they're cheap enough to donate the grey ones.

EnglishBreakfastTea1 · 17/04/2026 11:01

I'm 40B/C (depending on where I go, have to try them on first) but you can already see I'm a plus sized person with dmallish boobs so most wired bras are not comfortable. I wear non-wired t-shirt bras or bralettes now, unless I have a formal event to go to then I'll pay out more for a bit of structure. I look for wide straps and wide bands. My shops are M&S, John Lewis, Sainsbury's Tu, and figleaves online. Boux Avenue has some good ones but try them on first because I find their sizing a bit inconsistent.

Not this one! I do a fair bit of horse riding, and my boob ligaments would be absolute ravaged agony without a bra to strap everything down (and there isn't even that much to strap!). It does take a bit of effort to find a comfy bra, though. Someone here mentioned Calvin Klein bras as being comfy - I tried one on in JL and the wiring dug in everywhere. All ribs (and boobs) are different...

Pearlstillsinging · 17/04/2026 14:54

I like moulded bras or 'flexifit', which I find much more comfy than wired bras and look so much better than crop tops which leave meooking shapeless.

Jelly Bra!

Absolutely love them wouldnt go back

I don't understand how you get proper support without an underwire, though.

I’m a 30g so have issues with bras and most I hate but I bought the Celeste’ d or jelly bras after seeing them on fb and my god they are so comfortable. Actually more comfortable than not wearing one.

I'm a similar size, can't cope with wires anymore and am sick of having red marks on my shoulders from the straps

V interested in these jelly bras, but do they actually give you proper shape and lift?

If you're wearing the correct size, underwires shouldn't be uncomfortable. Quite the opposite. I find non-wired bras to be very uncomfortable because they don't give enough support.

I find them fine for that. I took a punt on a medium and I just have everything on the tightest setting.
