Help me find a 100% cotton shirt dress pleeeaaaaase!

I’ve seen people suggest brands on here that I’d never heard of before so I’m hoping someone has seen something!

size 12

budget up to around £125

If I could find something this shape:

in 100% cotton, in maybe a slightly stronger, warmer colour (or cream) that would be ideal! (I am a bright spring)

So, knee length, tailored, not baggy or oversized etc. it just seems like there should be a million but they’re all polyester!

I don't mind moody - at least she's standing properly & you can actually see the dress clearly!! (And it's a nice dress!)

Thank you there are a fair few brands on here I haven’t heard of so it’s always good to know! I find a lot of the time certain things don’t come up in searches unless you write the brand name, so once you’ve looked at the places you know you’ll get a few results and then just repeats of the same.

I’m not going to lie, I immediately saw something lovely, but not at all plain and waaaayyyy out of budget 😄

Yes, New Look can have some surprisingly good quality pieces sometimes. I didn’t know Lidl sell clothes! I’m learning all sorts of new things from this thread, thanks everyone!

Don't rule out the supermarkets and shops likeMatalan. They can have some decent clothes.

Samantha Sung used to be a bit cheaper. I have about half a dozen cotton dresses and 1 wool, silk lined. First one was bought around 2006. They've worn really well.

I definitely haven’t! I saw a perfect dress on F&F but it was sold out. I think I must be looking at the wrong time of year every year because I often find ones that would be perfect but sold out in my size. Then whatever’s left isn’t what I want!

Just looked up that Gini London brand - not really my thing overall, but they're properly independent & seem to invest in ethical production etc. Quite a lot of synthetics though.

They do what looks like a pretty decent copy of a Rixo dress for a lot less money, for someone who might want the real deal but can't afford it - it's polyester though. I wish at least recycled polyester was the norm, & ditto with organic cotton. (Those are starting to become more commonly used though, which is really good.)

It's annoying that you can't filter by fabric, though that's not unusual - it's just a bugbear of mine! But they do have some linen/cotton bits that look like quite decent basics. I may well give that shirtdress a try as the shape & colour look good.

Also, OP - they have other shirt-dresses ... this one is pure cotton.

I found a BNWT FCUK cotton tennis dress on vinted at the weekend for £5. Don’t bother spending £125!

It's frustrating that they can make a 100% silk dress for the same price as all the polyester ones - but just the one!

(Not a shirt-dress I know, just lamenting that silk seems to have become rare & expensive, when brands like Whistles & Warehouse & French Connection used to use it regularly.)
