Co-ord or Pyjamas?

SurreyisSunny · 14/04/2026 20:19

I love the look of co-ords it seems everyone on social media is wearing on holiday and in the summer. I tried a couple on in M&S and I looked like I was wearing expensive pyjamas.

What do you all think about this trend? Do I just embrace the pyjamas look and go for it?

These are lovely! I came on to say I don't think it matters if coords look like pjs or even are pjs. These are a perfect example! a coord outfit is great for holidays. The outfit together and loads of options with them as separates. Buy them!

Why are these husbands getting to decide what posters want to wear?! Can we please stop making men the arbiters of what we are comfortable in, what we enjoy the look, feel or even idea of! I wish people were a bit braver with what they wear.

I bought a set this week from M&S and I looked ridiculous tbh. It’s a trend I won’t be wearing

LaurieFairyCake · 15/04/2026 08:23

They all look like I’m a resident in my local mental health unit

This is a fashion I’m not doing, it’s been going on for a few years too

Apart from anyone who has them as pjs 😆

As a child I was given a gorgeous nightie which I wanted to wear as a dress to the theatre. My (wise) mother was having none of it which was good because there was indeed another girl wearing my nightie. I'm not proud to say I judged.

It works both ways in our house. I sometimes say to DH "You're not going out in that Please get changed, you look homeless in that sweatshirt"

Same here, often 😊 I don’t think it matters to give an opinion from either partner.

dudsville · 15/04/2026 09:19

I have two sets. I also think they look like pj's, but I love them.

We'll he's not the arbiter of what I wear, but to be fair to him - if he's convinced I'm wearing jammies - other people will be too and I'm not brave enough to front that look out in a cold town in the north west. Some looks I can carry off - some looks I can't.

Equally I've said the same to him at times .... 'are you going for the mad professor look?'

I think something in a solid colour, like black, and sleeveless is the way to go. For me anyway.

I am on the look out for a black structure sleeveless top and wide leg bottoms…

a bit like this but linen

I have a set very like this, plain navy, from Uniqlo last summer. It looks absolutely fine, and I wore it a lot to the office and on holiday, possibly because the top is not the classic "PJ" style.

The other style that can work is the elevated satin print type. A little bit swishy....and you can also wear the top unbuttoned, with a cami top underneath. This sort of thing.

But anything cotton or stripy, and you are in risky territory.

My friends look stylish and cool in them, I look like I’m wearing pjs even if I wear wedges, nice bag etc. I’ve given up.

PersonalJaysus · 15/04/2026 10:06

They only work with heels and a blazer imo

BitOutOfPractice · 15/04/2026 10:13

I wear a lot of co-ords. Love them. Usually block colours but for my upcoming hot holiday I have a few shorts sets with patterns. Do they look like pyjamas? I don’t think so. And i Don’t care if they do to be honest. I like them. Whether my DP or a complete stranger thinks they look like pyjamas is equally irrelevant to me. I wear what I like. And I like to try new trends because clothes interest me. Without being a slave to fashion before a that accusation gets levelled. I find that stubbornly sticking to what you’ve always worn is very aging. There. I’ve said it.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 15/04/2026 10:19

Never mind PJs, when I wear top to toe stripes I look like a deckchair.

I think if you wear co-ords you have to wear something else, something that signals 'I didn't just get out of bed'. So a cami under a top or a silk tie belt or something that makes it look like an 'outfit' rather than 'I couldn't be bothered to get dressed'.

365RubyRed · 15/04/2026 11:16

In my experience, even the most expensive co-ords look like PJs, and I won't wear them for that reason. I want to feel properly dressed. I don't want to look like I've just got out of bed.

Trickedbyadoughnut · 15/04/2026 11:35

I've got my eye on this set for my upcoming holiday - I'll probably wear them to the pool and the beach, maybe lunch, but I don't think they look at all like pyjamas (although you might all tell me I'm wrong 😅) :

I couldn't wear that - the pattern doesn't match 😆

Scottishskifun · 15/04/2026 13:12

They feel pj's to me I also tried some on thought they looked lovely on the hanger but I looked like I was going to a posh slumber party!

Flushitdown · 15/04/2026 13:21

I think it depends on the fabric - anything satin, jersey or thin cotton definitely looks like pyjamas.

Thick cotton, crochet or lace and I think they look less like pyjamas. Pattern also helps.

I like them on others but not on me!

spiderlight · 15/04/2026 13:26

I remember a very fashion-conscious friend coming to visit in a beautiful silky embroidered coordinated outfit when my DS was a toddler, and he immediately started stroking the fabric and saying 'Jamas, mummy. Ahh, beautiful beautiful jamas...' 🤣

Agree, if it’s not being done regularly. I tried a military type green jacket on and my husband clicked his heels , saluted and asked me if I was off to invade the Falkland’s. I’d still have bought it if I liked it but I knew I looked like a diminutive army general. Which is fine if that’s what you want.

CointreauVersial · 15/04/2026 14:08

@Trickedbyadoughnut they are definitely not pyjama-like (well, not the sort of pyjamas I wear to bed, anyway). Will look great on holiday..

It has made me realise that the other problem I have with this sort of co-ord is when I would actually wear it. Yes, nice for wafting out to dinner on holiday, or attending a posh summer BBQ. But that's once in a blue moon. I would feel a proper charlie schlepping round Tesco in it.
