Help with pigmentation

Has anyone actually managed to get rid of pigmentation on face. It’s from picking spots years ago and have been using dermatica prescription retinol for about a year and it’s not really made much difference. Has anyone found anything else that works?! Hate having such an uneven skin tone. The 11 lines and wrinkles are bad enough!

Following for advice! I've tried everything - Dermatica, La Roche Posay, laser, Elemis dynamic resurfacing. The only difference came from Vitamin C serums but found it gave me really deep sore spots so I stopped that. (tried a few serums and all had same result - I'd stop and the spots would clear up within a week). The Vit C did seem to fade the darker ones.

Hope you have better success than me and I hope a poster comes up with a brilliant recommendation.

I get post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and vitamin c plus Mandelic acid has worked wonders. I can’t tolerate a lot of vitamin c serums, but the medik8 tetra c advanced isn’t annoying my skin at all

Hi OP! A year on prescription retinol without significant improvement on post-inflammatory pigmentation usually means the formula needs a supporting cast. Tranexamic acid alongside retinol is one of the better combinations for stubborn PIH. It works through a different mechanism & the two complement each other well. Alpha arbutin is worth adding too, particularly for spot-specific pigmentation. Azelaic acid is another strong option (if your skin tolerates it) as it targets melanin production directly & has good evidence for uneven skin tone. And don't forget daily SPF. Hope this helps.
