Glam sunnies - what brands?

FancyShades · 12/04/2026 12:38

I’m looking to buy a very glamorous pair of sunglasses.

In the past I’ve had Tom Ford Whitney in black, which I really liked, and I’ve got a pair of aviators from Tiffany that are lovely. I don’t suit Ray Bans. I’ve got a sporty pair of Oakley’s for sports.

Any ideas? As mentioned, looking for a glamorous pair. Not thinking of a budget at the moment. I don’t mind a bit of bling, but not too much!

For something Glam and interesting, if you are in or visit London, go to 36 Opticians on Beachump place.

I have massively sensitive eyes, so wear sunglasses even when cloudy. Windy days reduce me to tears quite literally. Am sure there are judges, but I don't care. Am building up a collection via Vinted, with different colour frames to suit whatever outfit I'm wearing.

crying in the wind has started happening to me!

Perimenopausal dry eyes. Ask me how I know.

Is that it? I’m deffo in peri. I am subcontracted - so I drive to various workplaces as part of my job. One of these places I have to walk a distance because their car park is always full. It’s always very windy on this particular road. When I got into reception, the staff sat me down with tissues as they thought I was crying because I was a little late.
Then they obviously thought I was lying when I said ‘it’s just my eyes watering!’

The staff still ask me if the journey was okay and if I am okay now, whenever I go.

so embarrassing!!

Yes. Paradoxically dry eyes make them water more.

@Classiclines you genuinly are being incredibly rude.

I'm sorry but why am I rude?
.
I am actually have been a wearer of sunglasses since my teenage years. I never leave the house without a pair. I enjoy buying sunglasses.

But honestly. " Glam sunnies "? It's ridiculous.

Classiclines · 12/04/2026 15:55

Lucia573 · 12/04/2026 14:02

I don’t understand what is wrong with the term ‘glam sunnies’? It communicates well what the OP is looking for.

Edited

It conjures up 1970s rock bands.
Who on earth uses the word " glam"?
Who on earth calls sunglasses " sunnies"?
It's just mindless.

Welia · 12/04/2026 15:57

You're being rude @Classiclines because you've come into a thread of perfectly ordinary harmless women discussing sunglasses, which is actually fine and normal, and you've had a massive weird go at everyone here. Not even just the innocent OP, but then you widened it out to the entire board and concept of the board. Absolute scenes.

There's no need at all. 😂It's a chat forum and chatting is fine! OP is fine!

SqueakyFromme · 12/04/2026 16:01

@Classiclines Glam sunnies, shortened from glamourous sunglasses, perfectly understandable, most people weren’t thinking Elton John c.1973 😎

Thank you for your concern but we are all okay thanks 🤩

Well actually you didn't even need to post this because the self satisfaction on this board is always so patently obvious!

Whosthetabbynow · 12/04/2026 16:23

@Classiclines Just weird

PRPrincess · 12/04/2026 20:21

Wait for the Hannah Saunders range. It will be worth the wait! 😁

Franpie · 12/04/2026 20:26

I have many Prada’s, a couple of Tom Ford, a couple of Versace, and more I can’t think of.

But my most glamorous ones are my massive, black Chanel ones. I have 2 pairs and regularly get complements on them.

Maxiebaby0 · 12/04/2026 20:52

Another vote for Bulgari

BinseyPoplars · 12/04/2026 21:05

But I honestly think some of the fashionistas on the board need a few comments from ordinary people to balance their obsession

Tbh @Classiclines this is a bit like going on the parenting board with “a few comments” about resilience, discipline and corporal punishment - just not really necessary in terms of balance

OP I keep seeing people getting good sunglasses in charity shops but never find any; my best pairs are old and a bit scratched but I have Gucci frameless ones and lovely pair of Chanel oval gold rims. The ones I wear all the time are Rayban which I know you said you don’t like (mine are not aviator style) and an old pair of Boden cream cats eye ones.

I’m following your thread as I now feel like I’d like a new pair!

minnowonthesay · 12/04/2026 21:05

I like Quay sunglasses, they sell them on ASOS too.
I loved Michelle Pfieffers Celine ones in The Madison. I bought a similar pair for £50 in Salcombe recently, I don’t look after my sunglasses enough to justify £300+ sadly.

ThisSunnyBee · 12/04/2026 21:27

Ysl

evilharpy · 12/04/2026 21:34

When you say you don't suit Ray Bans, which ones have you tried?

FancyShades · 12/04/2026 21:35

Classic lines,

I’ve spent a lot of time living and working in the Far East and Australia. I picked up the word “sunnies” there, rather than sunglasses.

You would know that if you got out more.

Also, I’ve quite a few pairs of sunglasses, sunnies, but I’m looking for a particular pair to add to my collection. I’m channelling Elizabeth Taylor and Monica Belucci here, so yes the word I’m using is glamorous, or glam.

Sorry you don’t like my choice of language, but I don’t really care TBH. Who cares that you think.

I want to hear about Chanel, Bulgari and Prada sunglasses and you aren’t going to spoil it for me.

I don’t need bringing down to earth or a bit of balance thanks. I’ve been there and done that, and I’m going to enjoy dropping a fair wad of cash on some “glam sunnies” because I bloody deserve it!

I find the aviators make my face look droopy and the more round or square ones are meh. As a result I bought a Tiffany pair of aviators and they are fabulous.

I can't wear the aviators at all, they just don't suit me. I keep trying them on in airports just in case my face has suddenly changed and am disappointed every time.

I love their Jackie Ohhs though and am currently wearing a pair of Erikas most days.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 13/04/2026 15:57

I too have tortoiseshell Jackie Ohs and think they are glam due to their size.

Marylou2 · 13/04/2026 16:31

Love my oversized 70s style Chloe sunglasses. Great with a maxi dress or pale denim flares and a silk headscarf.

TroubledBloodyMary · 13/04/2026 16:41

I’ve been wearing the same pair of Miu Miu sunglasses for years, because I’ve never found another pair I like as much - that I could contemplate paying for.

Th words ‘Jacques Marie Mage’ give me actual palpitations …
