What am I doing wrong? (Redness on face - pic included)

These are my cheeks - with foundation on.
I use Liz Earle face wash, No7 serum, No7 moisturiser. Sometimes use a primer (Rimmel) and always Revlon Colourstay foundation.
But I then have to put concealer (Rimmel Hide the Blemish stick) across nearly the whole of my face - cheeks, nose, chin, forehead - to get rid of the redness. Even then, I still don't look flawless. It drives me crazy - plus is time consuming and expensive. To top it all, I think Rimmel are stopping making the concealer so I definitely need alternatives!

FYI Im 46, perimenopausal and have always had rubbish (spotty/ blemishy / red) skin on my face. It's affecting my confidence and self esteem now. Please can anyone help?
Thank you.

OP pic doesn’t look severe

But that's not what your reply said. It said it was a made up problem. It's not.

The OP's skin isn't terrible, but it doesn't look great. The problem with Rosacea is that if left untreated it tends to worsen. The redness can become permanent with visible blood vessels, it can progress from type 1 (redness and flushing) to type 2, which is redness and flushing and painful acne papules. In addition, while uncommon, it can lead to skin thickening and distortion of the nose (more common in men than women).

WearyLeader · 15/04/2026 18:02

I was referring more to expensive fancy cleansers and creams that are sold in shops such as Boots. Not prescription medication for rosacea which I understand is a medical issue. I take the point that OP may have actual rosacea (although honestly it doesn’t look bad at all - I’m Celtic skinned and lots of people with my skin type have red toned skin naturally). I suppose I was thinking of skincare more generally.

notfallingforit · 15/04/2026 18:26

I read around 20 years ago that L’Occitaine foaming facial wash was good for rosacea so I tried it and couldn’t believe how much better my skin became - I still use it every day.

I thought I’d try switching to one of their other facial washes last year, one for more mature skin 😂 but after a week or so the rosacea started to return so I switched back!

Thanks again for all the comments and advice.

I've now bought the CeraVe cleanser (to replace the Liz Earle cleanse & polish) and the CeraVe moisturiser (to replace the No7 one I was using). I've also bought some Erborian cc red corrector.
Time will tell if it helps at all...!

What do people use to remove make up? Would Micellar Water be kind to skin?

I use la roche posay toleriane cleanser and reusable face cloths, so in your case I'd just use the cerave cleanser you've got.

I've not had much experience with micellar water, so don't know how good it is, but I wouldn't bother spending more on it when the cerave will probably work just as well.

Trilogy is great, but a bit pricey. It sometimes pops up in TK Maxx though. The Ordinary do a 100% rosehip oil too, but I haven't tried it.

Did you use trilogy by yourself?

Sorry, not sure I understand. Did you mean did I use Trilogy by itself? If so, no, I put a moisturiser on top. I always use Elemis Pro collagen marine cream, which works well for me and doesn't trigger a flare up of rosacea.

Gillthepill · 17/04/2026 14:27

I wouldn’t use the hot cloth cleansers, just simple micellar water will remove all dirt and then La Roche Posay Cicapkadt Baume repair moisturiser. I use the 5 for day and 5+ for night or when my skin feels dryer or tighter. Keep to as few products as possible.

Amsylou · 17/04/2026 14:31

This is my issue and I have rosacea. I recently found generative AI was very helpful at ‘evaluating’ my face along with which products I use. It recommended a few other products and my face is in the best condition it has ever been in.

I expect some of the products you are using are making it worse, so I would try to take out anything too harsh and stick to gentle products. Rosalique and La Roche-Posay do great products, as do Ordinary. I also use Cerave.

TheLivelyAzureHedgehog · 17/04/2026 14:50

Looks like rosacea to me. I had this, plus little pimples and red itchy nose. I’ve realised since that my dad also has it - people used to joke that he drank too much whisky, but it wasn’t that.

Rosex cream from the dr sorted it out very quickly and it has never come back, thank goodness. The skin on my nose had actually started to look thicker and bumpier, but the cream cured it.

i stick to Cerave products.

I’ve started using “Anua” it’s a Korean brand, really kind stuff, no fragrance which with rosacea you don’t want fragrance. The 3+ moisturiser is lovely !

Girlwithavibe · 22/04/2026 09:40

AZELIAC Acid!!
This will get rid of it !! Paula's choice is the best it's pricey but it's been a life saver for me!
I have super sensitive skin 49.peri and I think rosacea also prone to hormonal acne !!
I use this morning and night and it works a treat ! X

Girlwithavibe · 22/04/2026 09:41

La Roche posay gel.cleaser tolleraine and soft cloths u use and wash clean one every time x

Girlwithavibe · 22/04/2026 09:42

I use mostly la Roche posay tolleraine products very good I use the b5 serum as well x

Weirdconditionaltense · 22/04/2026 09:51

Just to add, if it is roseacia as it does seem to be, then exposure to the sun will worsen it. So keep out of sun and/ or wear SPF in a high factor.

I've been using the CeraVe hydrating cream to foam cleanser since seeing it recommended here and it removes make up fine. Occasionally I need an extra eye make up remover swipe as well.
How is it going with your new regime @ItalianChineseIndianMexican?

Thanks.
It's going ok thank you.
I've got the CeraVe face wash - is there another product that would be better at removing make up?

I've just been prescribed Rozex from the GP.
Not tried it yet as only picked it up today.
Has anyone any experience if it?

Thanks.
