Walking trainers that aren’t ugly or too dear

I am in dire need of some walking shoes/trainers - not boots as I have some already - that aren’t too ugly or pricey. I can’t wear Skechers as they don’t feel right on my feet, and I have quite wide flattish feet!

I bought some North Face walking shoes that look pretty good. They were expensive but should last a long time.

What's your definition of ugly and your budget

Walking as in on pavements or hiking/trail shoes?

ArwenUndomniel · 04/04/2026 19:08

I have these - I've worn them to walk round Machu Picchu and Tikal and they're still in good condition. For £14.99 you can't really go wrong, and they just look like normal trainers.

Sportsshoes.com are good for discounted big brand shoes for all sports including walking. Just got some Dolomite walking shoes for £60 discounted from RRP of £160.

Adidas Terrex. Had mine for a while now and they've been great.

Adidas Terrex are the go to in my house, we've had them for under £40 in the sale before. They last ages and are comfy from day one.

I recommend Allbirds to anyone and everyone who ever asks. Not exactly cheap, but you can get sale items. But they have literally transformed my walking life. I had awful heel pain for years until I discovered these now I can walk for hours with no issues. Made a huge difference to a couple of friends with plantar fasciitis, and also DH and DD both with knee problems (and DD is only 23 so they can’t be that ugly or does she probably wouldn’t have bought a pair). I love them.
