Please help me decide on the suit to keep?

I have to invest in a work suit for upcoming events, customer visits, management level meetings in fairly conservative manufacturing industry, male dominated (manufacturing).

I have ordered two blazers, petite cut, both fit great, one single-breasted (my comfort zone) and one double-breasted (never had one before). The DB one is cut shorter and was paired on the model with wide leg trousers, so I have ordered both wide leg and flared to try on.

Please disregard trousers’ length, I will need to reorder regular, petite are way too short.

I can only keep one set. I think that SB with proper length flares will be most flattering for my petite frame. The wide leg seems to make me bottom heavy, though I think it is a bit cooler and more modern. DB with flares doesn’t seem right, it seems too short.

Please let me know what you think.

i prefer the trousers in the last option but I actually think think the trousers in option 1 look better on you IYSWIM. Maybe it’s partly the jacket - the double breasted style seems to drown you somewhat. Is it too big?

2026Y · 04/04/2026 17:00

Sorry, to add, I prefer the single breasted jacket.

Laiste · 04/04/2026 17:04

I like pic 1. The one where you can see a bit of red top. (not because of the top, just to save confusion)

I prefer single breasted jackets - less bulky and less 80s boardroom.

The trousers - i think they all look ok. Pic 3 trendy shape. Pic 1 more flattering.

lovecafeaulait · 04/04/2026 17:04

I prefer the first combination. You look great btw! Where is the suit from?

Parsleyforme · 04/04/2026 17:06

If you are sticking with the same size blazers I think SB with the flares. I prefer the wide leg trousers, but I don’t think the jacket is tight enough to create balance

NewRedHot · 04/04/2026 17:13

Thank you. Picture one is also my favourite, DB with flares. I think so just wanted to scratch the DB itch, so I may get a patterned one for autumn to wear with wide leg jeans. All suits are from Reiss Gabi range. The blazer quality, if I am honest, feels non better than my M&S £50 blazer, but all M&S trousers from the matching set seem to have elasticated back, Reiss trousers feel more substantial. I also have a Hobbs suit on order, with straight trousers, so it will be between that and picture one. Thank you, all!

And sounds like I will need to downsize if I ever buy DB, you are right that it’s is not nipped in at all.

The first picture looks really great.

Pearlstillsinging · 04/04/2026 17:45

Double breasted jackets tend to make the wearer look wide.
The DB jacket is too short for your shape, it emphasises your hips.

The SB jacket with the trousers in the bigger pic looks great on you.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/04/2026 17:55

I think sb is nearly always better on petite women, and that’s a nice classic one. It will look much better than the DB if it’s a bit warm and you want to wear it undone too, I think.

DailyEnergyCrisis · 04/04/2026 17:56

I feel like the trousers look a bit short in the first two pics. I like the SB jacket though.

Chewbecca · 04/04/2026 17:58

SB without question. I don't think the trousers are too short?

SixthWorstOption · 04/04/2026 18:02

Is there a photo of you in the wide leg trousers and the SB jacket? I think that would be my preference based on the photos already shared

Yes I’d be interested to see this combo. But I do like picture 1 the most. I also think DB are more evening-y or dressy but that’s just my preference.

Petrine · 04/04/2026 18:20

The single breasted jacket looks really good on you. The double breasted is too boxy. I think the flares or the wide leg trousers would look good with the SB jacket.

Catcatcatcatcat · 04/04/2026 18:22

The double breasted jacket doesn’t suit you as well tbh. I prefer SB jacket and wide leg trousers.

GameOfJones · 04/04/2026 18:24

Definitely the first picture

CalicoCaterina · 04/04/2026 18:29

I recently bought the same combinations to try on OP, same Reiss suit. I kept your option 1. I thought the DB jacket felt more structured (maybe more interfacing) but the SB was really slimming.

The flared trousers had so much fabric in them that I just felt that the balance was a bit off with the SB jacket (thought they needed a shorter jacket). I also have an irrational fear about flares and tripping on the stairs after it happened to me last year.

I agree on the quality, just OK but it was reduced and a really good fit.

Griselinia · 04/04/2026 18:30

Wide legs need loafers not the pointy heels

This thread made me think of this!🤣

@Bigearringsbigsmile Too close to truth!

DH is the biggest winner from this thread, since DD flew the nest, he has been enduring my S&B dilemmas. Sometimes I can hear the gears grind in his head, as he thinks what is the right thing to say 😂

First pic, jacket and trousers def the best.

StripedVase · 04/04/2026 19:35

Stop saying some of the trousers are short when she specifically said to ignore trouser length!! Single breasted jacket and wide leg trousers would be best imo - the DB looks too fussy & dinner jackety and i find the tighter trousers less flattering.

Jeska7 · 04/04/2026 19:36

First pic looks great. Suits you.
