Lowlights- never quite up to my parting- any hairdressers here?

I love my hairdresser to bits and she always does a good job, expect when I have my lowlights done- just a T-section (to blend the grey into my old 'normal' colour) there is often about 1mm of grey left right at the roots.

Is this because it's impossible to get the colour right onto my scalp, almost?
Is it because it's T section and not a full head of colour?
Or is it something I need to mention?

It always looks great in the salon but when I come home and dry it myself it often looks as if the some bits of my parting has been missed.

Not a hairdresser but yes I don't think they take it directly onto the scalp which always leaves a small gap which is not generally noticeable to others.
