Tailor-made bra?

Anybody know about these?

I find it very difficult to buy bras. I am very fussy about textures (no lace!), have wide breasts but cannot bear the way the sides of so many designs dig in just in front of my underarms. I am fat and ageing, so have lost volume at the top, but the wires on bras that account for this dig into my sternum. I could go on and on.

I am contemplating asking for a tailor-made bra for my birthday. Would a bra-tailor be able to make a bra that works for me? How much would it cost? Where should I look? I only know of Rigby & Peller, and Google suggests that they start at £800 !

Cadolle in Paris are meant to be the best, but I haven’t had one made so can’t personally comment. (Sadly!)

I'm assuming you've already tried somewhere like Rugby and Peller for a fitting?

I haven't. I'm not in London (or Paris !). I get my bras fitted at Bravissimo or Fenwicks. They have equally good fitters IMO, but Bravissimo tends to have a greater range in my size.

I could have written your post, the amount of bras I've bought thought they were OK and when worn for a few hours the would be leaving red welts in my armpits. I bought a couple of bras on Amazon and I can't believe how cheap and comfortable they are and would highly recommend you trying one.

R&P does not start at £800! My favourite bras are £120 and I have a ridiculously wide back and no boobs so not a ‘normal’ size

Polish bras are excellent. Bella rose does online fittings and is v knowledgeable

Off-the-shelf or tailor-made?

Are they off the peg or are they made-to-measure? I think that OP meant the made-to-measure ones started at £800.

I didn't mean R&P specifically, just somewhere that has good fitters.

I'm surprised there's nothing out there that's suitable, but if you've looked everywhere to no avail then go ahead and get something made!

Ewa michalak offers a huge range and used to hand make but that was precovid so not sure now

They still do, I just ordered via Bella rose as they fit so beautifully!

Molke are not wired at all, go up to much larger sizes whilst being comfortable and supportive and slimming and more like a vest than lace

I’m always on the lookout for custom bra makers as I’m a very difficult size, but have drawn a blank in the UK. There are one or 2 companies in USA/Canada who will tell you how to measure yourself, design a prototype, send it to you, have a zoom session with you to look at the fit then adjust and send you a final version. Not cheap, obviously. It’s worth googling ‘custom bra makers’ or similar, and just browsing the links that you find.

Alternatively, you might find it helpful to call Ample Bosom, they carry bras from many different manufacturers including American bras which might suit you as from the sound of it, your breasts might be fairly wide- set. They’re quite an old fashioned small company, they know their stock and are very happy to advise on the phone. With a G cup you’ll have a fair amount of choice.

Maison Cadolle Paris - haute couture bras, ultimate comfort and look, and sublime experience.

In the meantime buy the softest sheerest vest and wear it under the bras you have. No more wires digging in.
