Nails for birthday year 11yo

My daughter would like her nails done as a birthday treat for her 11th birthday. I keep my nails short and natural. I don't get my nails done and am a bit clueless. I've never allowed this before after hearing stories about how the chemicals welded to your nails by uv can permanently ruin them. Is this true?

What should I ask for in a salon for her?

I think a one off is fine for an 11yr old.
just ask for shellac/gel - no acrylics, would look awful on her.
be prepared to have them soaked off a week to ten days later.
can she show you designs she likes? You’ll then be able to see if she’s hoping for acrylics or not
