I’m 53 and I like a sheer finish to my foundation, no matte or glitter. I don’t wear much makeup but I feel like I’d like a bit of colour? Can anyone recommend a suitable product please, preferably around £10 or less. I’m quite pale.

I fancy something with a big brush to blend it. I used to love my Rimmel bronzing pearls in the 90s but I don’t think they’d suit me now.

A little more but the Ilia cream bronzer is wonderful

I've just bought the Lumene bronzing drops and am really liking them. I'm very pale so it's hard to find something that doesn't look too obvious on me. I use it with a brush as a bronzer or mix a couple of drops into moisturiser all over.

It's out of your budget normally but I got it on the Boots £10 Tuesdays if you keep an eye out.

Tinted moisturiser instead of foundation?

Skyflier · 27/03/2026 12:49

If you are on insta look up Rebecca Beauty. She has her own range and all very natural and creamy.

cream bronzer would do what you ask without adding too much sheen. It blends in well to foundation or whatever base you use and it wouldn’t be an all over application so you wouldn’t look orange or have a tide mark.
my go to cream bronzers are HND (very sheer), PINK HONEY (more coverage) or CHANEL (pot lasts ages)
a little goes a long way and you can build it up until you have the coverage you like

Tanning drops in your moisturiser? I'm very pale but a couple of drops twice a week stops me looking ghoulish

Rayna37 · 27/03/2026 15:59

I’m really wary of fake tan but I’ve got on really well with tanning drops- a couple of drops mixed with a cheap creamy serum every other night.

Otherwise, how about a slightly darker shade in a BB/CC cream or tinted moisturiser?

Sienna X facial tanner is a subtle amazing colour on my pale skin just looks natural. Charlotte Tilbury bronzers are also great.

Thank you for all your recommendations so far! I haven’t used drops before and would be unsure about the ratio of drops to moisturiser? But I’m sure I could work it out. I like the idea of a cream bronzer though. I’m going to a big shopping centre this week so will have a look.

Seconded Bondi Sands tanning drops in your moisturiser twice a week - just ensure you blend thoroughly and evenly. Run a q tip over your eyebrows after so it doesn’t coagulate and go orange in the eyebrow hairs

donotmissyourchancetoblow · 28/03/2026 11:18

@badgersbadgerseverywherehave a look for a cooler toned bronzer when your browsing very orangey ones on pale skin can make you look a bit like a wotsit!

letmecomplain7 · 28/03/2026 11:22

Drunk Elephant bronzing drops mixed in with your moisturiser, I only use this, mascara, some clear eyebrow gel, lip balm and tiny bit of liquid blusher.

letmecomplain7 · 28/03/2026 11:23

Also they just wash off, they’re not a tanner they just give a glow.

minnowonthesay · 28/03/2026 14:41

I love Tan Luxe facial tanning drops, come on two colours and two sizes, I just apply a couple of drops directly to my skin after I’ve moisturised, rather than add it to my moisturiser.
