DDs wedding in September.
she has requested evening wear for guests

whilst I want something special I don’t want an old fuddy duddy MOB outfit

ive seen a dress online on Me & Em and know there is a store in London.
is there anywhere else I should try whilst we’re there for the weekend (soho, regent st areas)??

How glam do you want to go and what is your budget?
There is a fab shop called After Dark in Finchley north London - give them a call to make an appointment- the dresses are really lovely. Or try Nigel Rayment in central London

I thought that Fontill Rd in Finsbury Park was always the go-to place for glam party dresses and ball gowns?

Not sure of your budget, but Needle and Thread have a website and a store on Kings Road.

Honestly, if you want some ideas, TKMaxx often has lovely stuff. Nothing to be lost by looking....

just a warning, in my experience shops with evening dresses on their websites don’t have them in store most of the time. So annoying. Mine have been bought online or from charity shops

I’d spend some time browsing

ahead of your London weekend, and identify brands whose shops you would like to visit in person. (It’s still likely that you’ll find the widest choice and best prices online, but it doesn’t hurt to try various designs on first.)

This produces a more cheerful selection:

Wow thank you for these suggestions, I will check them out.

i would normally order a selection of items online shopping but in excess of £700 for some it’s just not an option

i had thought of renting as dd is very environmentally conscious and would approve

If you’re considering renting that’s all the more reason to take advantage of your London trip to try on clothes from brands you’re interested in but haven’t worn before. That way you’ll know which fit you best, and how their sizing works, so you can order a rental dress from one of those brands with confidence.
