Foundation recommendations for mid 40s skin

I am mid 40s and have never needed/bothered with foundation. I’ve tried it in the past but it always felt heavy and looked rubbish on my large pore skin.

My skin is now ageing and I have some thread veins around my nose and cheeks, lots of large pores and just don’t look as good anymore.

can anyone suggest a brand of foundation that is light but will cover the above without looking claggy? I don’t want to waste lots of money trying different ones so any recommendations very welcome 🤗

I’m 45 and use Beauty Pie Superluminous Serum. It gives light coverage, looks dewy and isn’t claggy at all. For heavier coverage I use Erborian CC crème.

I have just started using no7 hydraluminous foundation and am very impressed, I am older than you though.

Thank you both

If you don’t like foundation there are now loads of tinted moisturiser or BB cream or skin tint etc etc - basically they are all a bit lighter than foundation but with some coverage. They don’t have that powdery feel that older foundations used to have.

Meanwhile foundations have mostly become lighter and more similar to BB creams.

Today I am wearing NARS light reflecting foundation. It feels the same weight and consistency as my Erborian BB cream and my Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser.

I have a Laura Mercier foundation which is a little heavier and gets used for specific occasions only - I find it lasts better than the others.

The key thing is to try a bunch on, and find a colour and texture you’re happy with. Department stores or Space NK are good for this, especially space NK as the staff cover all brands. They will often give little sample pots of 2 or 3 options for you to try at home - highly recommend this rather than deciding in store.

I've been very impressed with Delilah foundation. The Perfect Cover Fluid Foundation is so light, and it looks like you're not wearing makeup at all, but it covers beautifully.

Delilah is all vegan, which is why I found it, but the quality is better than any other brand I have tried.

I really love the Erborian CC cream, it goes on light and smooth and still provides decent coverage.

I used to use EL Double Wear but it’s a little heavy for my liking tbh

Thank you all. I will have a look if there is a Space NK near me. That sounds like a sensible option.

I have rosacea and use both it cosmetics cc cream and the new clarins double serum foundation. Both feel nice and light but are great at covering redness

You might not need a foundation. If there are just some small areas you want coverage on then something like the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter dotted lightly over the top part of your face then blended followed by small pats of Nars Creamy Concealer over the problematic areas will work. That's what I do when my skin is good. When it isn't (and I'm dealing with horrendous red patches from Tolak cream so it isn't atm) I love the Dior Forever Skin Perfect foundation stick. But I love a glow and have dry skin so these work for this.
