Smart raincoat for ‘City wear’ but ideally with hood. Impossible?

Hi

This may be impossible to find but my DM is going to Paris and would like a new smart raincoat with a hood.

She likes trenchcoats and used to have a lovely knee length one but we are having difficulties in finding a replacement with hood.

Most are fine for everyday wear like dog walking but not for trying to be a bit more stylish in Paris.

She will happily pay more for quality

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Rainsisters

Oldraver · 21/03/2026 08:53

I would go for a Rain sisters if you want stylish

elastamum · 21/03/2026 08:56

Look at le mieux riding coats. Waterproof and stylish

travailtotravel · 21/03/2026 08:56

Ooh I was going to say Rainsisters, too!

The Rainsisters coats are lovely colours etc but it’s not everyone that suits such a silhouette. I prefer a longer less bunchy look.

Smart trench coats with hoods are like gold dust. I have a Zara mid thigh one from years ago that is thick and beautifully cut and people ask if it’s a Burberry. I have never found a longer length hooded one that I love and can afford. I think they can be found thought - but at a price.

I do have a couple of rain hats bought from different places. That might be an option if she just can’t find hooded coats. Or perhaps a very thin hooded gilet worn underneath.

You could keep an eye out at TJ Maxx. I found a very pretty hooded summer weight hooded trench there from a brand called ‘London Fog’.

Holland Cooper?

If your mum is like me and keen to avoid anything that she thinks looks like an ‘anorak’ and if she likes the vibe, a possible alternative is the slightly A line hooded scandi type raincoat. Marks and Spencer is where I bought mine in a good creamy taupe type colourway. Not quite as smart as a trench but more stylish than a short parka.

im sure I saw a navy hooded long trench recently - maybe Hobbs or Jaegar

Protected species do a trench

EvelynBeatrice · 21/03/2026 09:43

I’m strangely invested in this! Just googled and Jaeger at marks have new - see below - waterproof hooded smart raincoat. Sorry can’t link

There are a few options on the Next website. The Reiss one looks lovely.

Thank you so much to everyone. I thought it was an impossible request.

I’m going to hers later so will show her.

I have a 100% waterproof trench with a hood from Helly Hansen. It’s very chic, colour is khaki with rose gold hardware.
