Now they’ve changed L’Occitane Amande!

First they changed the formula to Nivea Soft and made it greasy, now they changed my favourite shower oil and hand cream to Amande Sublime. I tried some of the new hand cream in the shop yesterday and the scent seemed to disappear very quickly.

Why, why do THEY do this?

Presuming either cost so as to maximise profits or vegan because they then think they will make more money by broadening their market.

Money, money, money is all companies care about.

Everything good gets buggered up.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 21/03/2026 08:16

What have they changed with the Amanda shower oil please? This is my treat to myself.

Betano · 21/03/2026 08:19

The scent appeared to be different Confused

It’s really annoying isn’t it?
I mourn so many excellent things that have been changed or replaced by the greatly inferior.
Recently I found that my Elizabeth Arden visible difference peel off exfoliating mask is no more. I have nabbed a couple on a discount site.
So many perfumes too. In particular my favourite summer one - Nuxe Le Matin des Possibles gone and replaced by some horrible scents!
I never go for a same brand alternative. I go elsewhere and bear a grudge!!😁

FeltCarrot · 21/03/2026 08:29

I used to love L’Occitane wild rose, then they discontinued it so I used the quatre reine rose, then they messed about with that so I’ve given up on L’Occitane now.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 21/03/2026 14:27

You're right about the Amande scent being changed OP. Went into a branch earlier and the Amande Sublime, as it's now called, is a more obvious, sweeter almond smell.

deeahgwitch · 21/03/2026 14:51

Oh no 😮
Aldi do a dupe of the body cream and the shower oil.
I like the body cream dupe but the shower oil is a bit greasy or something.
Plus with Aldi, here in Ireland you never know when it will be in stock. 🙄
Blo*dy annoying.
I’ve started to buy the Bioderma shower oil Atoderma and it’s really good. It doesn’t smell as nice as the L’Occitane almond but it is very gentle and helps dry skin.
It is expensive but comes in a huge bottle that lasts forever almost.

AuldAlliance · 21/03/2026 17:02

L'Occitane are struggling, due to Yer One's tariff war, and greedy owners looking for profits above all, rather than the original family who were interested in the actual goods produced - they are probably cutting costs and this may be behind the product change:

ChampagneCharlotteLemonadeBudget · 21/03/2026 17:27

Aldi currently have dupes of the shower oil, body scrub, and body lotion for £4.99 each... obviously not as good quality by a long way but I'll be using it a lot more liberally than the real thing!

Betano · 21/03/2026 17:53

I’m sure it is a cost cutting exercise but surely it just means people stop buying the new products completely. I used to go through tubs and tubs of Nivea Soft. It was cheap, easily absorbed and wouldn’t flare up my dry sensitive skin, nor that of my kids who have inherited my skin. Now I don’t buy any of it since they made it vegan crap.

To be fair, they've always messed about about with their products. I was given an orange scented room fragrance which was heavenly. Went to replace it. Discontinued. Closest was "sparkling tangerine". Thought that'll do. Not even nice and a very expensive mistake.

Also agree re Nivea - it feels like I haven't even put it on. Maybe we should start a campaign.

Mary46 · 21/03/2026 18:09

Loccitane lovely but shower gels 20e in Dublin crazy! I bought the aldi scrub one amande its nice

deeahgwitch · 21/03/2026 18:45

I wonder are Aldi more consistent in their offerings in the UK than in Ireland ?
They so rarely have the L’occitane dupes in stock.
The same with their Jo Malone dupes.
The ubiquitous and ghastly imo Pomegranate Noir and Lime Basil and Mandarin are forever in stock. Not so the lovely Oud and Bergamot.

cheeseomelette · 23/03/2026 18:58

They had a load in our aldi the other day and I bought 3. Less almondy than the occitane but I sloshed it all in together with the dregs of the real stuff and it’s fine.

TomatoSandwiches · 23/03/2026 19:02

They've discontinued the bath milk!
I popped in last week and the ladies advised the shower oil works as a replacement which I have plenty of, alas it doesn't substitue as well imo and doesn't cloud the bathwater which is a key desire.
Does anyone know of a nice cloudy bath milk to replace?

Betano · 23/03/2026 21:03

Sigh. It’s the removal of small, daily pleasures of a nice shower oil or bath oil that makes me really grumpy in my middle age.

I'm still mourning the almond soap being discontinued. I get that they try to get new customers by producing new lines, and financial issues, but that was just the best soap. I've been trying various other exfoliating soaps and none are as good

I often wonder why so many products are converted to being vegan.

Is it really gaining them customers when they lose previously faithful buyers when the resulting change renders the item crap?

Vegans are a minority so numbers of potential new customers can’t be that great.

Are you in the UK @cheeseomelette?

JacknDiane · 24/03/2026 08:09

Nooooo!
Love(d) the shower gel.
Another very very gorgeous high end shower gel is Espa. Soooo good, fragrance is very spa-like and the consistency is superb.

RipplePlease · 24/03/2026 08:19

Just realised, DH bought me an Amande shower gel and body lotion set at Christmas..I will use sparingly.

OvernightBloats · 24/03/2026 08:21

It's sometimes a sign that the business is in trouble when they mess around with formulas for popular items. Cost cutting leads to disgruntled customers. Their reputation will suffer in the end. Trust in the brand goes out the window.

Why pay so much money when you don't know if it's the same formula?! Look elsewhere, they don't deserve your custom. It's the same with brands shrinking the amount you buy in a packet - they think the general public are fools who will happily accept the deceit!
