Spent £300 on a dress that looks awful, options now?

I bought a £300 dress and it looks horrible on me it doesn’t suit
me at all and it takes away my body shape. It looks like someone made a dress out of a dish cloth and I can’t return it and took the labels off. I feel sick about wasting money it looked amazing on the model I completely regret it and don’t know what to do

Can you show us a photo so we can help?💐

FetchezLaVache · 18/03/2026 13:30

Why can't you return it?

BewleyBear · 18/03/2026 13:30

Can you resell it? Why can’t you return it?

Bigearringsbigsmile · 18/03/2026 13:30

Why on earth did you take the labels off?

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 18/03/2026 13:33

Sell it? Have it altered?

Insideallday · 18/03/2026 13:34

Sell on Vinted. Hard lesson to learn, wait until you’re sure before taking tags off.

BewleyBear · 18/03/2026 13:34

Is it made to measure from abroad?

Aluna · 18/03/2026 13:44

Why didn’t you return it instead of taking the labels off?

Depop or Vinted will recoup some money.

notacooldad · 18/03/2026 13:46

Is there anything you do to style it ? Eg a belt Maybe have it altered oi make it shorter, ir alter sleecer?
Have you tried different underwear can make a massive difference how something looks.

BewleyBear · 18/03/2026 13:50

Does it not fit properly or is it the material that’s the problem?

CrocusesFlowering · 18/03/2026 13:51

@FetchezLaVache
She took the labels off.

MissPrismsMistake · 18/03/2026 13:55

Come on, @ForgetAbout - why are deliberately putting up people’s blood pressures? You could easily have given details of this purchase.

MajorProcrastination · 18/03/2026 14:09

Why did you take the labels off before trying it on?! Wild!

Sell it. Show the labels if you still have them. Say it's brand new, never worn but you removed the labels because you are a SILLY BILLY!

You're unlikely to get a buyer for the full price but it depends on how rare the item is or how in demand. There's still v expensive stuff on Vinted. Set a high price, you could at the very least get some of your money back off it.

HJC88 · 22/07/2026 11:25

You know what .... I've bought stuff in the past which looked horrid on but I've managed to alter it to look halfway decent and wearable but without a photo you really are on your own. If you can post a photo up here then perhaps people with sewing experience or maybe even those who are very fashionable and good at accessorising can help?

MissJeanBrodiesmother · 22/07/2026 11:26

Most places will accept an unworn dress without labels. Just send back with receipt.

CrocusesFlowering · 22/07/2026 12:45

@MissJeanBrodiesmother
No they won’t.
And for good reason.

Well I have sent dresses back to boden, white stuff and seasalt with proof of purchase but without tags and had no issues at all. But you must be right.

NotMeNoNo · 22/07/2026 18:36

What's the actual problem and what is the dress. Can you post photos?

CrocusesFlowering · 22/07/2026 19:02

I regularly buy from Boden. Their clothes don’t come with tags.

MissJeanBrodiesmother · 22/07/2026 19:23

😂 you are hilarious. Cheers.

CrocusesFlowering · 22/07/2026 19:25

You’re welcome

Old thread with only one post from
the OP!

Moparr · 25/07/2026 18:47

See if you can sell it, is their a boutique near you that sells for commission? Go and find yourself you’re happy in, and that you feel suits you. If you aren’t comfortable, it will make you uncomfortable all day.

You might be buying the ones someone has worn and sent back. I mean the ones people don’t like once trying on and then send back
