Wedding guest dress question

Forgive me, I don’t normally venture into Style and beauty but daughter is getting married in August and I’m struggling to find the perfect dress.
Would a holy clothing dress be okay?
I’m looking at the jewel colours; ruby, amethyst, emerald, sapphire.
thank you!

It would depend on what your usual style is, what your DDs expectations are, what sort of wedding it's going to be? Can you give a bit more information?

Iocanepowder · 16/03/2026 17:07

If this is your normal style then go for it.

If not, it looks like something i would buy if i was dressing up in fancy dress as a witch.

Doesn’t mean you need to go floral either though!

Blueberryme · 16/03/2026 17:39

I don’t think that’s a suitable dress for the mother of the bride sorry unless it’s going to be a very casual affair. What type of wedding venue etc will it be?

7238SM · 16/03/2026 17:43

What is your normal style? What is the dress code/theme/style of the wedding? Sorry, but if the theme is gothic/Halloween, its perfect. If not, especially as MOB, I'd reconsider.

Yes, sorry, that's exactly what I thought too.

I agree with all the posts so far.

I haven't voted, as 'not dressing up in a witches costume' doesn't limit you to 'going floral'.

As everyone says, without knowing what sort of a wedding it is though, it is difficult to say. This might be just the vibe the couple are going for.

Holy clothing is normally worn by the pagan and goth community and especially for handfasting. The fabric isnt very nice and it creases really easily. I wouldnt wear it for a conventional wedding.

PersephoneSmith · 16/03/2026 19:24

I am an aging goth, yes. Still got the long black hair. Definitely no longer have the waif like figure.
It will be quite traditional I suppose. The mother of the groom will be in some sort of silk skirt, blouse and jacket I imagine, with a hat, I can picture her now, spitting image of Alison Steadman.
The six bridesmaids (sigh) will be in various styles of dusky pink strappy gowns. How about these?

I think my boobs are a bit too big for the wrap style, but I prefer the darker colour. Also prefer long sleeves, argh, so hard.

Glad you found something. My friend got handfasted in a holy clothing dress and looked lovely. I made my own and Ive worn their stuff for pagan shenanigans. Its ok for right time, right place. Blue velvet will be lovely.
