Would you vote for me as Prime Minister if I promised this?

After spending far too long going shopping to replace essentials only to find they're discontinued, if I was Prime Minister I would pledge that:

Anyone who has found an 'everyday' item that they would want to keep repurchasing - you've found your ideal bra, foundation, eyeliner, running trainers, moisturiser, kids' school trousers, tights, hair product etc - should be allowed to 'register your interest' with the retailer, so if they ever intend to discontinue it or change the formula, cut etc, they must legally notify you, allow you to order further items (at a retail price no higher than 10% more than the average retail price) within a set time period.

They must fulfill this order, giving you time to find a replacement and not be left high and dry.

Good idea or no?

Obviously I'd also sort out world peace but I'm assuming everyone's with me on that.

That's a brilliant idea!

Yes! M&S bras.
A certain Boots apple shampoo that I still covet 30 years after they discontinued it..
Food items too please?

KaiserSozeHall · 16/03/2026 15:01

Food items - yes, why not.
I'm sure Sacla changed their aubergine pesto recipe years ago and it's not been the same since Hmm

Would you be willing to put 50% tariffs on all US goods until Ralph Lauren bring back their Glamourous perfume. They discontinued it in the early 2000s but I still think about it.

I'd settle for consistent sizing between all retailers, and indeed within the same retailer H&M and pockets for all female clothing. If newborn baby boys can have pockets, why can't I?

Yasssssss 🙌

Depends, have you ever had a photo taken of you where you look weird while eating a bacon sandwich?

Coconutter24 · 16/03/2026 16:04

So you stock up on 5 bottles of foundation before they discontinue, you finish the bottles months later and now the item is discontinued…. Now what?
If you’re going to have to find a replacement anyway when the bottles run out why delay finding a new one

Edited

You've bought yourself time, though - it's a real effort schlepping around makeup counters and even if anywhere still does testers it takes a while to try a few. If I tried to order a replacement foundation today and it was discontinued, I'd only have a few weeks' left.

This, as well as consistent fit within the exact same item in different colours.
Why do black jeans fit differently to blue ones?!

I look nothing less than stately, elegant yet down-to-earth while eating bacon sandwiches Halo

Lol! Love the idea of the tariff

Can this also please include notifications well in advance of when food manufacturers decide to 'improve' recipes so that I can stock up and slowly wean myself of the good stuff.
