Style Help - turning 40!

I have seen similar threads posted betore but reaching out for help.

I turn 40 soon, opting for a low key day/night out but will also be wearing a sash and maybe a 40th tiara 😂

I don't usually follow fashion, and havent worn a dress in ages. I usually wear wide leg trousers and tops or slim jeans/bootcut and blouses . I feel like I want to wear something a bit different but not too out my comfort zone.

Googled what's in fashion for S/S and still really none the wiser 😂

What would you wear to your own 40th - brunch and dancing??

I always feel like a twat dancing in heels, for me it's too reminiscent of permed ladies dancing round their handbags at Ritzy's c1989. So on that basis, I'd go for jeans, trainers, top. Or maybe skirt, top, docs. Cross body bag to avoid bags on floor issue. And as this is my birthday, definitely no sash.

Yeah I defo won't be wearing heels either! Is leaning more towards causal more "in"?

Googled what’s in fashion for S/S …

Yeah, don’t do that. 😄

Maybe spend a bit of time here:

for fairly clearly defined (aka not timid) examples of what’s currently fashionable and how it’s being styled. And then adapt anything that appeals to your own price point and comfort level.

If you really want a dress (and really are as clueless as you claim) maybe start here, not for the specific dresses shown, but to introduce yourself to brands you may not be familiar with - which you can then chase up on their own sites. Prices here range from supermarket to couture:
