A line Shorts - help needed

I’ve just been on a hike and saw lots of young people- all in shorts of varying types.
i was wearing cropped linen trousers. They’re very unflattering as they’re elastic waist and make my flat saggy arse look even saggier!

I never wear shorts because I think they’re square and mummy, but maybe not?

I definitely couldn’t wear biking shorts like a lot of the yoof I saw today. Also I don’t want to try and look young and cool as I am neither.

maybe some trackie type shorts, a line style, with a flattering waist. Do they exist?

I never wear shorts, and haven't since I was about 10! Ive tried pairs on but they have all looked awful, even when i was much slimmer than I am now. But last year on a very hot holiday in Wales picked up a pair to wear to the beach. I went with a shorter pair and they are so much more flattering g than anything mid thigh or lower - I noticed this on other women which I why I went for them. They are short, cotton, slightly loose.

I am very jealous you are somewhere warm enough to wear shorts of linen! I'm in the kidlands and we had little flurries of snow yesterday! I'd have worn a hat and gloves on a hike!

I agree that a shorter length can be more flattering. I find shorts that finish above the knee or any sort of capri length/pedal pusher trouser are wildly unflattering and frumpy on me.

Hmmm okay, I guess I automatically think longer is better but I’ve just looked at a few pairs on Next and the shorter ones do look better.

As someone with short legs and large thighs I was also surprised to find that shorter shorts are more flattering. I don’t mean hot pants but something that covers less than half the thigh length.

No idea where to get them but I've seen curvy women online wear one garment of clingy shorts with a fairly short skirt over.

They even had pockets and are made of some non natural quick dry fabric. I thought they looked good.

okay I’ll give it a go!
any recommendations?

I've seen the halara shorts recommended quite a lot but I don't own any, I do have some of their jeans and love them which is why I'm tempted. The shorts seem to be double layered to avoid ride up

ETA they seem to be called halara softlyzero and they come in different inseam lengths 3,5,7 and 9 inches

Twoshoesnewshoes · 14/03/2026 16:33

I’ll have a look at Halara
im wondering about fat face too?

Shorter does look better, just be careful when you sit down….they can ride up.

I'm have a couple of "skorts" which is what I think you mean? I bought them from Sports Direct. The ones I have are Callaway golf skorts.
