Weekend birthday lunch

What would you wear for a birthday lunch at a nice restaurant - this weekend and forecast 8/9 degrees and rain.

It’s the spring shoe dilemma that’s really the main issue, I want something slightly fancier than jeans but a dress with boots & tights feels more autumn than early spring?

And a lunch is less dressy than dinner.

Mid forties, size 12 and average height. I have a wardrobe of clothes but nothing to wear.

Tbh I’d probably stick to boots and (sheerish) black tights if it’s raining.

This cold we weather is such a pain!

I don’t dress for the season, I dress for the weather. Yes it’s Spring but it’s still cold, wet, and windy!

The style is nice, and I was considering a jumpsuit type thing. However this would just about be the worst colour on me.

Also they’re always shown with strappy shoes - how do I make that sort of thing work with boots?

No no no no no to the boiler suit imo.

Start with shoes. What shoes do you own? Are you willing to purchase some? Can you do heels? Are you going anywhere afterwards or walking far?

Thank you - yes this is probably where I should start. I have decent ankle boots - a suede pair which although get a lot of compliments don’t look great with dresses, and your standard block heal black boots, too work like though?

The zip has gone on my calf length boots. Maybe this would be the impetus to get them fixed!

Willing to buy suitable footwear as I know it would get used again. Any suggestions?

Not too much walking, trains involved so will be some. Cold & wet though.

I’d definitely go for a dress with long sleeves and boots. It’s cold out.

I like Cos and I also like boiler suits, but that boiler suit is awful, it doesn’t even look good on the model!

Do you have a long sleeved jumpsuit? I have a great one from M&S that I specifically wear in spring and autumn. Usually with nice trainers. Might be worth a look.

Agreed on the dress and boots. Honestly life’s too short to be cold.

Boots it is then! This seem to be your ‘go to’ so embrace it!

I’ve go some gorgeous light coloured suede boots which feel spring like but are not too dark and chunky.

Id wear with a nice dress/skirt and a wool coat. It’s still cold!
