Do you use shaving gel to shave your legs ?

I use a disposable razor. I put a foam body wash on my legs while in the bath then shave under the water.

I've never brought ladies shaving gel. Does anyone ?

I use hair conditioner.

Mrscharlieeeee · 08/03/2026 20:39

I used it for years and was taught to use it by my mum. Last 10 plus years though I use the Wilkinson razor that has the built in block of soap around it. The name escapes me right now!

Melancholyflower · 08/03/2026 20:39

When I shaved legs and pits regularly I always used it, not specific women's gel, usually Nivea men's. I only occassionally need to shave a few hairs since getting a Lumea a few years ago, If I didn't use gel (or foam, but prefer gel) my skin felt irritated.

StarlightLady · 09/03/2026 08:24

I use hair conditioner. The razor glides.

BeaTwix · 09/03/2026 09:38

I use gel - the QUEEN OF shaves stuff as it comes in a tube and not a pressurised can with a nozzle that blocks.

I think it’s better than any bathroom sub. When I travel I don’t take it and I miss it.

I use conditioner to shave my legs. A tip I got off someone about 30 years ago and I've done it since

Same. always use hair conditioner.

Surely if you are shaving in the bath, when you stand up, you must be covered in little hairs! 😝

I shave in the shower and just use soap or body wash. I used to buy shaving foam in my 20's but realised there is no need for it.

katmarie · 09/03/2026 09:48

I use a mens shaving soap and a proper barber's brush. When I was pregnant my skin became super sensitive to shaving and it was the only thing I found which stopped me coming out in a rash.

MisMonaxo · 09/03/2026 09:55

No.

My friend noticed her women's shaving gel smelled like scented sanitary pads. Why does everything need to be scented? 😅

HangingOutAtTheRialto · 09/03/2026 09:57

Bar soap & a men's razor (disposable blades).

goz · 09/03/2026 09:59

I use baby oil.
Ive gone through phases of shaving gel though, I do find foam body wash to be the same texture and shaving gel is better.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 09/03/2026 10:04

No. The only way that I can shave is if I do it in the bath, because my skin is ridiculously sensitive. If I don't, I get itchy and bleeding razor-burn. I also use a men's razor, because they seem to do a better job and last longer.

I’ve used Dove soap for years. Works a treat.

BauhausOfEliott · 09/03/2026 10:27

I use shave gel. I never used to, but I got some free as part of an Estrid deal a while ago and found it made a big difference to the skin on my legs.

Does this really work? It's so simple. Why aren't we all doing it?!

Yep, it really works! So quick and easy, I'm not sure why I didn't think of it earlier either, it took me until I was about 35 when I was shaving my teen ds for it to dawn on me!

Yes Dove soap is great, or Dove body wash. Occasionally a moisturising shampoo.

The trick for me to get a close smooth shave and avoid that horrible raw bumpiness effect is applying the product with exfoliating gloves - so I put a large dollop on the gloves and exfoliate my legs which spreads the soap at the same time. Then shave before washing it off. Even the thought of shaving without using exfoliating gloves makes me wince.

I used to use one of these way back. Do they cut very close to the grain? Do you get any remaining stubble? Was thinking of getting one recently but couldn't remember how good they were. I remember the one I had really bloody hurt.

They don't cut, they pull the hair from the root like waxing. I find they don't leave legs completely smooth as I always seem to have hairs which are too short to be caught. I also get quite bad ingrown hairs from waxing and epilating and I have given up on fighting them. My epilator is gathering dust in a drawer now that I have been converted to an IPL device, but the effectiveness of these does depend on your skin tone and hair colour.

I do. When I occasionally run out and have to use shower gel I really notice the difference. I have very plentiful, dark body hair (Irish) so perhaps that’s significant.

I noticed my legs got dry and used sensitive shaving gel (Venus) in my 20s. I’ve tried soap and conditioner but nothing works as well as shaving gel/soap though I buy cheaper own brand now.

I shave in the shower with a mens bic razor and just the shower water. I change the razor maybe once a quarter. I am a cheap date.

Same. I just run the razor over whilst I’m in the shower. Not got very hairy legs btw

Ohmygeorgey · 09/03/2026 12:27

Yes I use it, and when I go on holiday I take a travel sized one with me. I just find it's a smoother finish.
I've tried conditioner many times but I just don't like it.

Allmarbleslost · 09/03/2026 12:50

I use it, yes. I get an itchy rash on my legs if I don't.

OSTMusTisNT · 09/03/2026 12:53

I use a men's Gillette Mach 3 razor, no special shaving gel though, just whatever shower gel I'm using at the time.

Silverbirchleaf · 09/03/2026 12:53

Body wash or shower gel

LadybirdsProcessing · 09/03/2026 13:28

Shower gel and cheap razors for me. I'm lazy though and won't bother until it's too hot to run in my full-length winter running tights. For several months of the year I'm grateful for the extra insulation (and yes, my legs are hairy enough that it makes a difference!).
