No one at school cares what coat your kid is wearing. If you and she like it, get it

Pinkgin00 · 05/03/2026 20:29

Nothing wrong with this coat, its just a plain black coat that looks practical and warm for school?

newyorknewyorkforevernewyork · 05/03/2026 20:30

People judge 😄 - I'm not posh but we are in a posh area

The ted baker logo

She's 7 she's doesn't need a £50 coat. Honestly and truly no one cares about what coat she is wearing.

Bitzee · 05/03/2026 20:33

If you have £60 to spend on a coat for a 7YO then get one with better waterproofing because it’s only shower resistant which isn’t ideal really. You’re paying that much only for the brand emblazoned on the back. I wouldn’t think it was trashy or anything though. Just an odd choice for a 7YO as I associate Ted Baker more with wedding guest wear for women in their 30s+.

Willowskyblue · 05/03/2026 20:33

It’s a bit grown up for a 7 year old.

ThisNiftyExpert · 05/03/2026 20:34

I personally don't like the Ted Baker logo. Also we are going towards summer and that looks like a winter coat. If you are buying for next winter your child may prefer something else in 6 months time.

BigBrownBoogyingBear · 05/03/2026 20:34

I don't like the massive logo and it looks like a winter coat - when the weather has just started to warm up a bit - so not very practical.

I thought that, I was thinking more 11-12 at first sight?

I don’t think it’s wise to spend that much on a coat for school in case it gets lost/trampled on

Pinkgin00 · 05/03/2026 20:36

newyorknewyorkforevernewyork · 05/03/2026 20:30

The ted baker logo

You are paying for the brand, you could get a better quality waterproof (rather than showerproof) coat for that price. But I honestly think most people don't really care or pay that much attention to what coats orher kids are wearing.

BendingSpoons · 05/03/2026 20:37

It's absolutely fine, but a lot of money for a child's coat IMO.

I guess it's possible there's lots of 'reverse snobbery' where you live,.and people will judge you at trashy for spending £60 on a coat instead of getting one in the supermarket or similar.

Bunnie007 · 05/03/2026 20:37

If what you’re saying is that you want to fit in in a middle class area then no don’t go for Ted Baker or a ‘grown up’ looking coat, I would opt for something from maybe Boden or M and S x

newyorknewyorkforevernewyork · 05/03/2026 20:35

For September!

By September shevwill want something completely different. You can get far better quality winter coat for less money. You are literally paying double for the massive logo.

TheBlueKoala · 05/03/2026 20:37

@newyorknewyorkforevernewyork If you want to fit in with posh people then don't buy any clothes with visible logos on them.

Besidemyselfwithworry · 05/03/2026 20:37

Check the uniform policy - ours says no logo’s but other than that it’s fine I’d say

This is what I worry about - in a liberal london borough?

Schools round here at primary school level say no ostentatious logos. The way it is interpreted is a discrete Peter Storm or Regatta logo is fine.

Its not plain black though, not with a stonking great logo on the back!

stichguru · 05/03/2026 20:42

That much for a school coat that they will probably lose within days?! I suppose if you are lucky enough to have the money...
