Thank you everyone, you've saved me 😄😄

Ive bought two parka coats, no logos, and some summer sandals instead

It's a bit grown up for a 7 year old and expensive for not very waterproof!
Go on Next, Boden, Joules, Mountain Warehouse etc
Mountain warehouse has all their winter coats and other stuff reduced at the mo and if you have blue light discount you get it on top of sale price. I love it there

RedSpottyMushrooms · 05/03/2026 20:45

If you have £60 to spend on a coat for a 7YO then get one with better waterproofing because it’s only shower resistant which isn’t ideal really. You’re paying that much only for the brand emblazoned on the back. I wouldn’t think it was trashy or anything though

Agree with this. I rate Muddy Puddles coats - they're about the same price range when in the sales, plus waterproof and practical.

notmuchtoit · 05/03/2026 20:46

People might think you are WC. The horror!

Onetwothreefourgo · 05/03/2026 20:49

Surely you buy a coat you and your daughter like not one you think random people will like…?

Womaninhouse17 · 05/03/2026 20:49

Why use your 7yr old DD as a walking advertisement?

Swissmeringue · 05/03/2026 20:51

If you want to spend £60 on a coat for your kid to fit in with a bunch of posh kids then get it from Boden. Though I've finally gotten over my attachment to Boden coats and my kids are fully sponsored by mountain warehouse these days.

Really though I can't say I've ever paid much attention to what coats other kids are wearing to school.

Dd needs to fit in and do better than I have in life tbh 😄🙈

You will be judged for the logo.

Agree you should get a Boden jacket or find some obscure Nordic label.

HarshbutTrue2 · 06/03/2026 11:20

Tres nouveau riche.

This is what I worry about - in a liberal london borough?

In a liberal London borough you will look the equivalent of trailer trash in a coat with that logo. Sorry!

😄 its alright, I know now, so glad I asked honestly

Make sure it has a lot of reflective stripes on it somewhere. A fully black coat is not safe in winter for kids.

dubbie · 06/03/2026 11:38

No, the coat is okay but the "designer label" is not a good look for a little girl. Don't do it.

Hallywally · 06/03/2026 11:42

No - tacky and too try hard for a child of that age.

Hallywally · 06/03/2026 11:43

I’m as working class as they come and it’s tacky to me. I don’t think it’s necessary for a child that young to wear a coat from any exercise brand. Supermarket/Matalan etc is fine - anything more costly is a waste as they’re growing.

Hallywally · 06/03/2026 11:45

Boden- so pretentious and MC 🤮

Parker231 · 06/03/2026 11:47

newyorknewyorkforevernewyork · 05/03/2026 20:30

The ted baker logo

There is a high chance she will loose it. Try Vinted instead

newyorknewyorkforevernewyork · 06/03/2026 11:53

I love the silhouette tbh, what an awful logo eh 😅

BauhausOfEliott · 06/03/2026 12:03

On Mumsnet, you are only allowed to dress your children in Boden, M&S or quality second-hand items with no visible branding.

In the real world, nobody will bat an eyelid at a child wearing what appears to be a very practical, warm Ted Baker coat.

CaffeinatedSeagull · 06/03/2026 12:15

somekindof · 05/03/2026 20:29

No one at school cares what coat your kid is wearing. If you and she like it, get it

Hard disagree. Others and I were victimised for having wrong brand of coat or trainers at school, and it still goes on now at some schools. Kids can be mean, and they often get that from their parents.

Edited

I'm a working class single mum - dd needs to not have any other reasons to be picked on, as harsh a truth as it is 🥺

We've already had comments from someone about 'i have a dad, some children aren't as lucky'

Ironically enough, by the people who wear big labels on their coats 🤔😅

Anyway - I ditched the idea and I am now looking on ebay for jeans for her 😄

I have bought Ted Baker school coats since my daughter started school and genuinely the quality is excellent. Logo issue is totally up to you but I can vouch that they are really good quality coats that don’t scruff easily.

ItsNotMeEither · 06/03/2026 13:45

I’m not a fan of huge logos/brand names, unless they’re actually sponsoring you, why do you need the big label?

WhosMadeline · 06/03/2026 14:08

Honestly I would think it looked really brash and naff. The style and branding look tacky to me. And a waste of money on a “designer” coat for a little kid. I would never say that out loud but I think you wanted honest opinions in the thread.
