I’m attending a wedding very soon and need a dress in a neutral colour; I normally buy (and prefer) jewel colours so this is quite a challenge!
I am a size 10, 5’4 and would appreciate your help
Many thanks

Well I'm guessing that doesn't mean white so are we talking black or beige or cream? Or is even cream out? Is this the dress code?
I'd be sorely sorely tempted to tell them to stuff their wedding invitation tbh...😂
However if you want help, well ok. But what colours are we realistically talking?

Eucatastrophilia · 03/03/2026 16:48

Yes, that’s too wide a field. Can you narrow it down to your preferred neutral colour? And the style of dress you feel best in? And the type of wedding?

And your budget?

championbags · 03/03/2026 17:47

Thanks for replying
I’m afraid that’s all I know, although different shades of brown are suggested
I would suit more fitted styles than flouncy, knee length or longer, and preferably long sleeved if possible. I’m in my 60s
it’s a very smart wedding
The budget would be around £100 - £200 (hopefully)

If pale green is considered neutral, I’d prefer that to brown tbh

What the hell?! They want all of their guests to wear brown?! I’ve never heard such bollocks in my life. Do they attend to turn people away if they don’t comply? Who are these maniacs- do you actually like them?

MrsMitford3 · 03/03/2026 17:50

@championbags was the dress code on the invitation?

If so how exactly was it worded? Do you know the colours of the bridal party?

Pearlstillsinging · 03/03/2026 17:52

How about grey? I wouldn't wear brown, it just doesn't suit me but would happily wear grey and it can look very stylish.

DappledThings · 03/03/2026 17:52

Prescriptive dress codes like this for weddings are so rude and unwelcoming. Have they actually said "neutral"?

Should say intend rather than attend. I was so shocked, I lost my ability to write.

championbags · 03/03/2026 19:08

It sounds like a request, but you don’t have to comply
Thanks for the suggestions so far. I really appreciate your time

Oo what did you find? 👀

championbags · 03/03/2026 19:55

Actually, the petite spot ruched waist is my favourite so far. Thanks for finding that

Next stocks lots of different brands. You can google wedding guest dress next and then filter by colour.

But brown of all colours!

Oh good! I like that one too, it seems a nice flattering shape and not a bad colour combo for a neutral, which is not my usual bag either OP.
