Got my eye on the leopard print adidas classics and have seen some converse with like a scarf tie on them too.

Which pairs are on your wish list at the moment?

@Whatineed a pair of beauties- well done. I had some leopard superstars in my basket the other day but removed and now have regrets.

I am trying the Nike Cortez I posted below but have gone pink with green rather than green with pink. A new direction for me with the Nikes.

RampantIvy · 05/03/2026 06:04

I did read on another thread that middle age women in ‘smart trainers’ are frumpy

That's me then. I wear "smart" trainers, so that makes me frumpy 😁
They fit with our dress code at work, and I shall wear them today as I will be on my feet all day at an exhibition.

TBH, until I joined mumsnet I never viewed trainers as a fashion item, but more as practical footwear. I only own 2 pairs of trainers - my smart Remonte trainers and my Adidas ones. I have awkward feet (bunions, narrow heels, arthritis, flat feet requiring orthotics), so I tend to buy what is comfortable rather than what is in fashion.

I do like the look of those FitFlop trainers, but can't justify buying any more.

Focusispower · 05/03/2026 06:47

I have on current rotation:

  • Hoff City Los Angeles - super comfy but wish I’d gone for a blue pair not khaki although they go with most things.
  • adidas indoor gazelles in a sort of lilac-ish colour
  • Veja - pink/white - they were work trainers but stopped wearing them

I want some adidas handball in the (I think) beige/rose gold. I’d also like a bright pair - maybe pink or leopard!

what qualifies as a smart trainer? In my mind it’s a plain blank or white leather unbranded (at least not visible) style.

RampantIvy · 05/03/2026 07:05

I prefer plain trainers in conservative colours though @Focusispower and
I don't want other people to notice my feet.

IAmUsingTheApplauseReactionSarcastically · 05/03/2026 07:12

Are Adidas comfortable? (Thinking of Spezials/Handballs specifically.) I think I read once that they weren’t and that has clouded my opinion of them ever since. I really struggle with comfortable footwear. Wish they’d bring Nike Internationalists back!

Goldpanther · 05/03/2026 08:25

I have just ordered both of these! Never had Adidas trainers before, so I'm hoping they are comfortable. I love a leopard print, they would go with all my clothes. And the cow print I was drawn to with a bit of a pink accent. Hoping they will look nice with jeans and my endless collection of white tops!

I’ll wear trainers if I’m in a hurry somewhere, and I wear them for work, but I’ve relegated them big time for skirts and dresses.

I’ve now got a rule that absolutely no trainers with a nice dress in the summer. It’s sandal-like shoes only.

ainsleysanob · 05/03/2026 08:45

I collect Adidas Handball Spezials, I have way too many! So, another pair of them to answer your question!

CakeFace1234 · 05/03/2026 08:49

I must have strange shaped feet as I love Vejas and do find them really comfortable, I've always got my eye on offcuts for a good seconds pair. DH accidentally bought me a pair of Victoria plimsolls once and they were even more comfortable they smelled like sherbet too. Loved those.

Thecows · 05/03/2026 09:17

I love my Vejas too.

What colour is in this season please?

I have about 10 pairs I guess.

1 x Nike Cortez
2 x Addidas court bold. The chunky ones
2 x Veja (very comfortable!)
1 x Addidas Gazelles
2 x Vans
1 x Shoon

Trainers definitely fashion for me. I'm a runner and have a whole heap of actual running trainers too.

They’re absolutely fashion for me! In fact, I’d say my Spezials are part of my identity! I own no other shoes apart from a pair of plain black DMs and some Scarpa waking boots!

TealReader · 03/03/2026 23:09

If it’s any help I find Vejas terribly uncomfortable and would never buy again!

same, they're dreadful and fall apart.

Spend your money on a different brand.

I find adidas or puma so comfortable now I don't even look at any other brand.

TheZingySheep · 05/03/2026 09:36

gollyimholly · 05/03/2026 01:20

I second this. I hated mine. And then my DB bought me some for my birthday and so was stuck with another pair for some time. They're also weirdly the first pair of trainers where I have slipped and fell wearing them a fair few times.

I would like a pair of the liberty X Adidas ones too.. and the Puma speedcat in burgundy.

Edited

I have a newish pair that I feel slightly precarious in - thought it was just me. It's the slight rock from heel to toe combined with a slightly slippery sole that makes me feel wobbly. What trainer do people find have the best non slip soles?

MattDillonsEyebrows · 05/03/2026 09:40

These from Air & Grace. I've had a couple of A&G trainers and they're literally the comfiest things Ive ever put on my weird, wide toed, bunioned feet.

Sadly I can't afford them right now and they don't last very long for me as I'm also ridiculously heavy footed and these are graceful trainers, for graceful people, but they do make me feel graceful when I first wear them and I love them and highly recommend for comfort. 😊

What kind of trainers should middle aged women wear if they don’t want to look frumpy? I can’t keep up 🤷🏻‍♀️

dubbie · 05/03/2026 10:08

Nice colours but how practical would they be?

StorybookLove · 05/03/2026 10:15

I need those blue velvet hoffs.

HeNeedsRehab · 05/03/2026 10:20

Trainers are definitely fashion for me and there’s some great ones on here so my list is growing!

I’ve got 4 x adidas, 1 x new balance, 1 x Nike air max (which I looooove!) and a few converse.

However, I have relatively big feet for my frame so have to be careful what I wear with what. I tend to wear high top converse (or sandles in the summer) with anything that isn’t jeans/trousers

They're a nice style but velvet trainers are just wrong.

I found Vejas uncomfortable.

StorybookLove · 05/03/2026 10:31

I have around 60 pairs. I have size 3 feet so can fit into children's. My favourites are my cord Nike air max, I actually bought a second pair because I love them so much. I really want the nike air force with the velvet laces in burgundy.

Wrong in what way? That they aren't practical?

StylishAndBeautiful · 05/03/2026 10:35

@StorybookLove , just wrong. They look like a weird slipper-trainer hybrid.
