Which Vitamin C serum?

I’m mid 50’s and need to get back on this. Had one once before ( might have been Inkey List) and I remember someone commenting that it was a good one as there was no water in it.
Anyway, time has moved on, so which products are recommended now?

What’s your budget? The best I’ve used is Skinceuticals CE Ferulic but it’s £££.

ShyTealBiscuit · 01/03/2026 07:33

Yep, depends on budget. There are some really good ones but they are pricey. Geek and gorgeous have a very good budget one. I've been using dermatica lately and I'm getting on very well with it.

I’ve not really got a budget as I want to improve my skin texture, and I think this will do it.
Im aware they oxidise (?) so it’s better in a dark coloured glass bottle? even better kept in a fridge, although I don’t want a fridge in my bathroom!

The things to look for with vitamin c serums is that it contains L-ascorbic acid (rather than a vitamin c derivative), preferably in a dark, airtight bottle. You want 10% - 20%, 15% seems to be the sweet spot with vitamin c serums.

Using Nip and Fab currently (bought via eBay). Going to try the Simple one next as has been on offer in Sainsbury's.

Whowhenwhatwear · 01/03/2026 07:41

Have just bought the loreal clinical 12% one. the Oldy vitamin c in a yellow bottle made zero difference to my skin.

PlumPlumb · 01/03/2026 07:43

I use the Boots 15% one and I really like it but people seem to either love it or hate it from the reviews.

I use it in the morning and it makes my skin feel quite tight but almost acts like a primer under my make up. I use make up with SPF in it as well as I also use retinol/ acids at night.

@johnworfI used to use this one but it doesn’t say what percentage of vitamin C it has?

It's 20%

I use the Medik8 one and love it (always get when there’s a discount offered - currently 20%). Still pricey but not as expensive as Skinceuticals.

Teaandwater · 01/03/2026 08:19

Medik8

I am in my second tube of Cerave 10%. I like its texture as it’s smooth unlike a The Ordinary which is gritty. I feel a tingle on using it- less so now and can see my skin is clearer and brighter with less pigmentation. I get it on Amazon and it’s in the £20 region I think. Lasts a good while.

Sunday Riley but not cheap.
