Hi, I originally posted on shopping but was redirected to here.
I've got my first ever in person job interview in a couple of weeks and I'm really unsure on what to wear. The job requires you being smart and presentable/seeing clients but isn't super corporate (think publishing) but obviously I want to look my best for an interview. I'm a student so don't have lots to spend. I'm really stuck!! Just hoping someone can help! I have a plain white shirt and black dr marten shoes but not much else. I’m 5 4 and quite curvy (boobs and bum). I see a lot of oversized blazers but I think with my figure that would drown me and make me look unprofessional. Whilst I don’t have lots of money I would like to spend a bit more if it’s it’s something I can wear a lot for work. Thank you!

I own some basic makeup - normally wear a bit of eyeliner concealer and blush. Not really an suitable jewellery ( I normally wear large hoops which won’t work)

Don't worry, you'll be fine. The main thing is to be clean and comfortable.

I'd dress up slightly smarter than you'd expect to be.
I wouldn't wear anything oversized.

Something like a fitted jersey blazer over a dress would be my thought.
I'd keep make-up and jewellery minimal. I wouldn't wear black or white unless with a bright colour.

I've not worn 'DMs' (Solovair) to an interview but I have worn them to the office and sites. They should be ok with opaque tights.

Examples:
Whistles Slim Jersey Jacket, Navy
Nessa Ottoman Shift Dress-Tourmaline Blue | Boden UK

I'm old enough to be your mum. Shops like Zara, H&M and New Look will have something much more affordable, and supermarkets like Sainsbury's, Tesco and Asda sometimes have good things.

Might as well bump the thread a bit to get traffic. I forgot to say that those might be what I'd go for. I work in a creative sector (smart casual) and like wearing dresses because i WFH a lot so get bored of hoodies and leggings.

Good luck!

Go straight to:

https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/women/special-collaboration/uniqlo-c?path=%2C%2C107393%2C

and pick one or two things from the Uniqlo : C collection.

If you can afford the blazer that would be great, if not, just look at the other things. Uniqlo does other, less costly blazers. (It is not inevitable that you will feel you need one, but you’re likely to have other interviews and a decent jacket can definitely help one to feel confident.)

How would you feel about the flat Uniqlo : C shoes?

I’d also suggest you take a look at the

https://www.stories.com/en-gb/last-chance/ sale

while it’s on, to see if there’s anything you think might suit your future work wardrobe. Aim for things with a high percentage of natural fibres - they’ll perform better and last longer.

My first job was in publishing - it was a great entry to the working world! My typical interview outfit is either a dress, black tights, and low heeled ankle boots or smart trousers, blouse or fitted knit jumper and ballet pump or boots. I love DMs, but personally wouldn’t wear them to a first interview. Maybe a second interview if it definitely matched their vibes. In my 20s, my work shoes were exclusively primark and dresses etc were all sales – I wouldn’t worry too much about spending a bunch of money on expensive items right now.

Best of luck!

Just adding a couple of dresses in the New Look sale that I think would be cute, possibly even with the DMs.
