To replace the existing screw backs on a pair of earrings with ones that are not screw backs? I assume they would use the same platinum or credit you for the platinum removed? What would you expect to pay?

£45? I am most likely way off as I have no idea. That’s what I’d be willing to pay.

Pixilicious1 · 23/02/2026 17:29

i paid £150 - and I’m not in London. I was floored! But it was have it done or never wear the earrings again as the post on one had become threaded.
such a rip off

Where did you get them from? A big London jeweller did mine for free (I’d lost a back and my only option was to have the posts plus backs changed).

Ive used this workshop for repairs, remodelling, making from scratch & replacement diamonds etc.

Ive also attended one of her workshops and made myself a pretty piece. Shes dead straight, very skilled, doesn’t overcharge and offers the market price for scrap gold.

Send her a photo or two & ask for a price.

It was Tiffany’s who did mine for nothing, although I did buy them in London.

It might be worth me visiting them then . I'm not far from London.

The quote I was given by a local jeweller was 510 pounds 😳

😮

I did a live chat to see about replacing the back and they offered me the complimentary repair. I took them to London but I could have posted them. If you go on a weekend I’d recommend making a repair appointment as they get very busy.

You could price up the posts on a website like cooksongold. I think with the price of platinum they won’t be cheap. If you want Tiffany to do a repair, if you visit in person you need to make an appointment.
I posted to Tiffany a sentimental silver bracelet that needs a new clasp and the heart reattached, they have offered a repair or new like for like replacement for £90 including postage.

Oh wow.
Im a jeweller, (but i dont work in a shop) platinum has gone up a lot in the last few months - and gold - but that seems crazy.
I hate screw fittings and would usually recommend decent butterflies instead ....but they wouldnt be that much!

It's the posts as well but assumed they would use the existing. I need a bigger butterfly to balance them out as they hang forward.
