Foundation recommendations for older skin

mumof1or2 · 22/02/2026 20:52

Can I please have your recommendations for lightish foundations that don’t sit on your skin and look cakey? I’m in my 40s, I’ve just hit peri menopause and my skin has changed so much. I’ve found a great skincare routine with Skin + Me products but I can’t find a foundation which works for me. All the ones I’ve tried recently sit in my crows feet and fine lines and make them look worse and sort of sit on top of my skin rather than absorb into it. I keep seeing Il Mikiage adverts on my feed - is it as great as the reviews say? Any other recommendations? I want a bit of cover to even out my skin tone but nothing too heavy. I don’t wear much make up.

Agree it's very light..no real coverage in my experience.

That sounds ideal for me.

I currently use Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser as I find foundation too heavy these days.

EstherGreenwood63 · 23/02/2026 16:24

Just this week bought some Lumene CC cream. It is really good and I have tried many many foundations/tinted moisturizers etc. Really inexpensive too and pretty good range of shades. Sits really nicely on my menopausal skin. Under 15 quid.

I just bought Rimmel Kind and Free Skin Tint (or something like that) on a whim in Sainsbury's and I really like it. I'm 46 and definite feel I need lighter all over coverage and just a dot of concealer on the darker pigmentation on my cheeks. I don't think my skin can take a heavier foundation anymore.
I do also really like the Laura Geller Balance and Brighten but it does oxidise on me and I think I need a lighter shade. Perhaps it always did but I just feel like a prefer a more natural look nowadays.
Under my eyes I'm using a peachy colour corrector which is supposed to go under concealer but I like the brightening effect I get just using it alone.

My hairdresser who’s 48 uses a L’Oréal foundation and mixes two shades. She looks amazing.

Skin Nova Complexion Balm, by Vieve. I bought it last year after trying everything-EVERYTHING! (I’m 56, btw) it is lovely to wear and I treated myself to the skin nova complexion balm recently. I think Space NK stocks the range. It is 👌🏼

Vicliz24 · 23/02/2026 16:57

I’ve just bought a second tube of the Lumene Cc cream . I find it very wearable and has SPF . I’m 61 and it sits lovely on my old face .

I’m using a L’Oréal bb gel now and it’s nice and light. Surprisingly good for the price. Has anyone tried Laura Geller? The baked stuff. I’m being hounded with ads on Facebook.

The Laura Geller baked foundation sits well, but personally, not quite the right colour.
What is good is their contour and blusher - best I’ve ever used.
How Are you preparing your skin before foundation? I’d say you need to moisturise at the very least, not use to much and never apply with fingers. I use a sponge with dabbing motions.

@blackfriday1 and @SoScarletItWas which one do you mean? There are 3 similar products on Amazon, but none is both ‘true match’ and ‘serum’. Good prices though- something I’d try!

there’s a photo of the choices, waiting to be approved…

Edited

The £10.99 one with the white dropper top :)

The others are a step up towards foundation (and excellent, just a bit more coverage / less dewy).

RipplePlease · 23/02/2026 18:07

Oohh, I’ve just purchased the Lumene CC cream on Amazon. Hope I like it!

luckyladygal · 23/02/2026 18:40

@RipplePlease me too !

KellsBells7 · 23/02/2026 19:43

Another vote for. Victoria Beckham. It’s ridiculously expensive but amazing. On days I don’t have any meetings I use Lisa Eldridge skin tint so the VB lasts longer.

gianfrancogorgonzola · 23/02/2026 19:54

I just switched to Nars light reflecting. Tried the new Armani luminous skin but prefer the finish of the Nars. Lisa Eldridge is good but some days I need more coverage!

embolass · 23/02/2026 20:16

No 7 Hydroluminous is just lovely
loads of shades and gives a great finish. Very reasonable £ too and usually offers on

Meandmouse · 23/02/2026 20:57

Has anyone used the new Clarins Double serum foundation. Went to Clarins and got colour matched. My skin felt and looked so lovely that I went online and bought a bottle, as they didn’t have my shade in store.

I’ve got Laura Geller - it’s rubbish - the blusher is amazing though x

Ive been wearing LG for 2/3 years now and I personally rate it

I wear the double baked - covers everything - over my bright red and oily t zone, than then the balance and brighten over the top and blend in - takes all off 2 mins

I do have to moisturise well, and I do use her spackle ( primer ) but then I have a face that is still me - but better - that lasts all day and I cant feel any of it

Im 62 , have a few lines, lot of redness and combi skin

Augustus40 · 24/02/2026 06:12

I am 62 but normal even slightly oily skin..
Moved over to L'Oreal True Match after years of using Estee Lauder Double Wear.

Cheap as chips and although a bit watery in texture I use more but looks good and. I also use a Rimmel primer Lasting Finish so again no real outlay.

I’d love to try the VB did you get it online or in a store as I don’t want to chance buying the wrong shade,

IceOnTheLake · 24/02/2026 08:17

I've found the older I get, the less stuff I need (or want) on my skin. So a good SPF moisturising product, and a tinted serum on top.

Erborian cc is ok, but it can turn very obviously orange. My favourites are Typology sérum teinté - it's brilliant and lasts forever. And Trinny London BFF cream or BFF de-stress.

Menopants · 24/02/2026 08:23

I have had lots of compliments since using beauty pie luminous mineral.

Mumofoneandone · 24/02/2026 08:46

I tend to use no7 but slowly switching over to look fabulous forever products, which are designed for older skin.

I got colour matched in SpaceNK then bought online as the didn’t have stock (some shades are hard to get hold of at the moment). The shade I needed was the same as was recommended on the online matches, but wanted to double check because of the cost!

Thanks, def need to see the colours as at that price I don’t want to buy the wrong shade.

Thanks for this and from other people. Giving it a try over Spring and Summer, although I still love my Clinique Even Better.

TigerDroveAgain · 04/05/2026 10:22

Thanks to this thread I bought some Eborian: and am loving it!
