Women on tv

Holdinguphalfthesky · 20/02/2026 20:54

I don’t often watch tv but have an opportunity to indulge a guilty pleasure. I think here is the most relevant place to voice an opinion…

I’m watching the Apprentice.

Looking at the women, including Karen Brady, they seem to be almost disadvantaged by their makeup and variety of outfit options. The women as a group look very disparate with huge variations in skirt length, style, etc.

but more than that, the make up on some people really makes them look quite odd. I include KB in that. Is it that injectables and Botox make people’s faces collapse in some places and stay smooth/firm in other places, resulting in them looking older in odd ways? Or is it that make up makes people look older than they are?

Yes, let's judge all the women based on their looks . 🙄 Karren Brady has achieved considerably more than the rest of us in her lifetime but never mind that.

This. So many judgy threads lately, you’d think we would have moved past all this.

Which makes it all the worse! The quality of the candidates in that show in recent years is pretty low. Bring back Ruth Badger!

It lost its credibility years ago, there are no Ruths, Yasmins, Michelles, Katies (even if you don't like her) or Luisas, they all seem like carbon copies and very unmemorable. The men aren't much better.

I miss Margaret and Nick too.

Holdinguphalfthesky · 20/02/2026 22:15

I haven’t watched the apprentice since before covid, but actually if I was judging people I would have put it on AIBU. This being S&B, and I was struck by the fact that for led the women’s outfits and makeup leave them more open to judgement than the men. I don’t agree with judgement on appearance. I hadn’t noticed it before but as I say, i don’t watch tv much so I don’t know if it’s universal, specific, or just me.

Yes there is no individuality. The women always wear a rainbow of colours and heels. Corporate women don’t dress like that these days ,so there must be some styling going on by the production team. They’re getting it wrong and making it a joke.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 21/02/2026 07:43

I think they wear colours so they stand out more on tv. I noticed a bit of lip filler too.

Lip filler is ubiquitous unfortunately. Why aren’t the men in bright colours then?

KB’s hair is too dark and looks harsh. It would suit her skin tone to be lighter. IMO. I’m struck by how many of the female contestants have such gorgeous skin.

They’re mostly very young though aren’t they. I just find the faux corporate look a bit dated. Both my young adult DDs work in London im the city and they can wear trainers. It’s totally different now. They would not entertain trotting about in heels.

Brightlittlecanary · 21/02/2026 07:55

Wow, how catty, the women can wear what they wish, thr world has moved on. They are not disadvantaged, it is not a physical challenge but a mental one, and the length of their skirts or the height of their heels doesn’t impact their ability to think,

and personally I think Karen looks fantastic for 56.

Huh? Her hair is really quite light. Any lighter and she’d be full on blonde. I’m sure she’d have something to say about your hair.

I’d like to see the women wear what they want, that’s my point. They seem to have been given brightly coloured suits and heels every year. But young women don’t dress like that.

I only watched the first episode and they were dashing round the streets of Hong Kong - the sky high heels were a disadvantage.

I agree with a PP who said they are probably dressed/instructed by production, because if you took 10 random business woman from across the country, they wouldn’t all be in pencil skirts and stilettos. Some if not all would be in trainers, boots, loafers etc. Especially if they were told “you’re doing a timed scavenger hunt across a city.”

Holdinguphalfthesky · 21/02/2026 08:25

I’m really not trying to have a go. But the very heavy makeup seems to make the women look odd, in some cases, and much more open to being judged in the first place. I mean, surely the men are also made up for tv? But LAS and Tim both look natural and actually no older than the last time I saw them, whereas KB looked older and had some odd lines in her cheeks (which made me wonder if it was caused by aesthetic treatments). And same with the contestants. If it’s their choice then fine, but if they’re pushed into making choices that leave them disadvantaged, it’s very unfair.

Karen Brady now looks like she would fit right in with the Trumpite women.
I believe it is called Mar a Lago face.
Bring back normal faces.
And Ruth Badger!

I noticed the weird plough lines. Looks like a face lift that’s not been done very well.

It’s not.
The chances of her ever coming into contact with me are small. If she did, and she didn’t like my hair I’d be unlikely to know about it because I’m not on TV and no one has ever posted about me on a public forum.

I think she’s lost weight and its showing in her face.

landlordhell · 21/02/2026 10:53

She’s lost lots of weight. The old adage of choosing between your face or your bum, as you age, hold true Having said that a big backside appears to be en vogue.

I don’t think her face looked better when she was heavier.

I just don’t see that, I think she looks better now, and before she just looked fat.
