I’m going out Saturday night. Some would say how lucky. I’m dreading it. I have nothing to wear. It’s country pub and drinks after.
im thinking jeans and a top but I have no idea . what do you ladies wear out these days. For reference I’m 5’2 and size 14/16.

Well, unless you have no clothes other than underwear, pyjamas and a 1980s bridesmaid’s dress, I’m guessing you certainly do have something to wear.

It’s a pub. Ordinary day clothes will be fine. What are the nicest casual things you own?

Frenchfrychic · 19/02/2026 19:59

Whi are you going with? Is it just dinner at the pub or is it some event sort of thing?

Jeans and a top will be fine. Have you got a top you like? Boots?

Looking for an excuse to buy something?

I often fall back on jeans, a black jumper and red lipstick for things like this. Nice makeup and block heeled ankle boots.

Ok, so, as it’s too late to order anything - do you have a Zara / & Other Stories / Mango / Arket / Cos / Massimo Dutti within reasonable distance? Any one of those would have something to add some effortless lustre to your wardrobe.

searchforthesun · 19/02/2026 20:55

What would you feel comfortable in? Jeans, skirt, dress?

Do you have nice jeans ?

EdinaTheConfessor · 19/02/2026 22:08

Pleather jeggings and a slouchy jumper
or
Jumper dress with tights
with chunky ankle boots.

Those would be my go-to for a night at a pub.

Plasticdreams · 19/02/2026 22:39

What jeans do you have and what are you wearing on your feet?

patooties · 19/02/2026 23:55

I bought a silver sequin long skirt that I’m wearing in the pub with a cropped white boxy tee and a denim jacket and trainers. Big scarf - bobble hat. I’m not a fan of the ‘nice top, jeans and boots’
last night I went for dinner and then to a gig . I wore doc boots, barrel leg jeans, a black silk shirt with a pussy bow - with a lumberjack type jacket, a big scarf and a bobble hat.

what is your usual look?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/02/2026 07:39

My alternatives to nice top with jeans and boots at this time of year tend to be along the lines of short or long dress, DMs and a faux fur jacket.

What long silver skirt do you have? I have a Hush one which I haven’t worn yet as struggling to style it but your styling sounds fab

Depending how I'm feeling, where it is and how I'm getting there.

Mini skirt, jumper and boots of some sort. Throw on my black wool coat and a scarf, possibly my fedora, and I'm good to go.

Alternatively jeans, tshirt/jumper, biker jacket, and suede trainers.

I don't do jeans and a nice top. It just feels frumpy and undecided to me.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 20/02/2026 14:17

I would wear barrel leg jeans with boots and a shirt or blouse, or a long skirt (satin style) with a chunky boxy jumper and boots. Or a lighter jumper with a t-shirt or shirt underneath.

or I’d wear slightly cropped jeans with boots or loafers and nice socks with a lightweight knit top.

The last couple of times I’ve been into Sainsbury’s they’ve had some great bits.
they had a puffed sleeve denim blouse with pussy doll bow, and a white blouse with a really unusual pointed collar with red embroidery.
I’d Wear the first with high waisted wide legged jeans and the second with barrel legs.
