Stylish travel jacket

I’m going on a multi destination trip and want one jacket that can do a variety of things

  1. has a hood for rain
  2. lightly insulated or lined for cooler April evening son Madrid.
  3. packs small as inam
  4. going tropical,
  5. stylish not too sporty
  6. can wear for nice dinner, city and coastal sight seeing and maybe
  7. fit a jumper under it int he UK travel portion for warm
  8. can wear with dresses and trousers as well as leggings and joggers!
  9. not black

I like the Finisterre lapwing but no hood and the other ones are too sporty. I have nice north face hooded windbreaker but it’s far to big now an a bit drab I have very cheap Zara coat that is great but it is far too big but I may well just re buy it.

I’ve lost 5 stone on Mounjaro!

That sounds like an impossible mission - I have no idea of a coat that would fill all these requirements! Good luck!

Something from Protected Species is probably your best bet:

Probably not as stylish or dressy as you want, but I have a Uniqlo ultra light down for European travel. Lots of colours, packs down small, water resistant and hooded.

If this exists, we’ll all be rushing to buy it. I’ve been looking for a new jacket for walking and, as yet, no luck, so I’m watching this thread closely!

I’ve found this on Uniqlo which I think fits the bill but OOS in all colours. Maybe a bit bulky? Not stylish enough?

The city walker jacket from protected species comes pretty close to really love mine, functional and beautiful fabric.

I saw this when the poster mentioned PS upthread and rhinitis it pretty spot on but I think the zip is and I can handle
it!

The City Walker is a bit impractical if it’s lashing down. Only your top half will stay dry. What’s the point ?
We’ve had terribly wet weather and a full waterproof coat was needed.

redboxerclub · 20/02/2026 14:23

@deeahgwitchit doesn’t need to be a waterproof coat. Just a hood in case I have to dash somewhere in the rain.

So many errors my post makes no sense.

it is pretty spot on but I think the zip is OFFSET and I cannot handle it!

If you really like the Lapwing I’d go for that and just buy a hood

CompanyOfThieves · 20/02/2026 14:43

I'd just wear a stylish jacket and buy a quality pack away poncho and compact umbrella for if it rains.
